Tig Question

Hi all

Hoping you lovely people can help me. I'm in the market for a Tig but I have to convince my better half. A quick look the other day elicited the comment from her that the seats were ‘narrow and hard’. I'm wondering if the leather option changes the shape or resilience of the seats or whether it's just a different covering over the same seat structure.

Any comments would be gratefully accepted.

Pretty sure with the leather option you get the sportier seats with more more pronounced side bolstering etc, you also get the aircraft style fold out tables for peeps in the back.

Having said that though I have the standard seats with fabric and find them extremely comfortable, no back or leg pain even after being in the saddle for 6 hours plus. I certainly don't find them too narrow and I'm by no means a featherweight

as said above they are a more sportier design, you get seat heating and the drivers seat has electrically controlled seat rails. if your willing to pay the extra for leather they do make the interior look "mint" but the standard cloth interior is more than adequate. at first glance they dont look overally enticing but they there VERY comfy

I'd hate to say this, but you're buying a car afterall, not a $5000 lounge suite.

However, if there's ever a car that makes you feel a part of the driving experiance, it's always been Volkswagen. You sit in the seats, not on them.

Perhaps you'd like to explain this to my wife.

I drove it and to be perfectly honest I didn't even notice the seats (too busy playing with all the toys). I'm pretty sure once she drives it she'll be as hooked as I am but if it really becomes a sticking point it'd be nice to have a backup plan.

I have a fractured spine that gives me real grief within about an hour of driving a car (make that 15 minutes in the MX5!). It's the main reason I own an SUV as opposed to a normal car. I can/have driven the Tig from Sunny Coast to Sydney in one hit with only fuel stops - 11 hours! and that has been impossible for me to do in my previous 3 cars. To be honest, I reckon they are therapeutic.

So I can assure you that the seats in Tig are without doubt the best seats and the best seating position I've had in a long time. IMO, they are not hard, they are firm and extremely well designed. Even over long distances (1000k's +), I get out feeling like I've just driven down the road. Without doubt, every person that has been in the Tig for more than a few minutes has commented on how comfortable it is. You may need to explain that to your wife, because it is a valid point.

But maybe your wife has her heart set on something else and just looking for things against buying the Tig? Hope it works out for you either way.

Just another thought, the height adjustment on both passenger and drivers seats is enormous - from hitting your head on the roof to almost sitting on the floor. While it's got nothing to do with the hardness of the seat, it can give you a very different feeling about sitting 'in' vs. 'on' the seats.

I too have had two back surgeries and would recommend the seating (in my case the leather) to anybody. I've driven the Tig for up to 6 hours in a day with no ill effects at all. Also, I'd have to say that your post is the FIRST I've seen suggesting the seats are any problem at all.

When we first sat on/in VW’s Tig fabric seat, I must be honest we didn’t get that “wow” feeling , but did get it in the leather one! (No offence to members, who own one, comes down to personal choice ultimately! Years ago, we own a golf in Germany whose fabric seats we felt were horrible and maybe that put us off)

My better half suffers from acute sciatic pain and one can imagine the discomfort it can cause during long trips. Well none of that happen! We felt it was very comfortable and was even a big factor in making our 1700ks trip recently to NSW enjoyable.

And like you may have guessed already, I did not need any convincing at all
