I found this one just recently, Q5 vs X3 for off-road testing (BMW event so could be some bias lol)

Interesting how the quattro system fails to engage, probably becasue it does not have the offroad pack.
Does the Tig do the same with no off-road pack?

The Tiguan doesn't have the Quattro system of the Q5, it uses a a totally different system (gen 4 Haldex) which I believe (even without the off-road pack) "should" give drive to the rear wheels as required. The off-road switch would CERTAINLY give drive to the rear in those circumstances and while I'm not prepared to put my head on the block over it I "think" the standard one would too. Frankly I'm astounded at how poorly the Q5 performed.

I undestand that the Tig uses the haldex system and the Q5 runs a quattro system.
I was of the belief that the Q5 was a more capable soft-roader than the Tiguan due to the Quattro system being utilised more effectively and making sure all 4 wheels are driving when any slip is detected.
That does not seem to be the case in this video which worried me slightly.

I should take my non off-road pack'd tiguan out for a test and see how it goes.

          Hi Team V

Would be interesting to see the results BUT everything I've seen has suggested that the Tig is superior off-road to the Q5. If you recall early on there were pictures of them using a Tiguan to pull a test bed Q5 (or it may have been a Q3 ??) out of the snow where it had got stuck !! I've never thought that the Quattro system was designed for anything other than seal use but I stand ready to be persuaded otherwise.

          Cheers

            Hey Derek.
The snow retrieval was a BMW X1 test mule.

I had read a few owners on VWVortex saying they went the Q5 for better offroad use but i don't know if they have ever actually tested it.

Turns out there are a few tricks you can do.
As the Quattro system uses the ABS to sense when a wheel is slipping, it is likely that they could have pulled the ABS fuse resultng int eh ABS not functioning, the car not knowing the wheels was spinning and then the quattro system not kicking in.

The Q5 is also predominantly FWD and when the back wheels are on the rollers it doesn't seem to even move the front wheels.
              Bit odd.

I think we need to make this thread a sticky or just merge it with the pictures thread.

And to add to the vid's.

Promo vid of the new 2011 Tiguan. I like the look of the 'Track and Style' better. Pity we don't get that in Oz.

                          Cap,
Just so you know it does make an increase in induction noise but it is baffled by the engine note, the firewall, the windows and the bonnet so it isn't nearly as loud as that in the car.
Still a pretty decent bit of kit though.

Team V has previously posted this vid by marreboy on the my tiguan forum, which includes some nice circle work in the snow (looked heaps of fun and guilt free), but there is also a slideshow there which I haven't seen here, and its very nicely done

                                Some details for you:

A bunch of my friends went up to the 1/8 mile drag strip we have here in town and i decided to tag along and see what the 'ol Tiggy could do...Before i went stage 2 tune and downpipe I was 14.48 in the 1/4.

We were bracket racing and I had a dial in time of 9.29. I ran consistent 9.32-9.41.

This video is of me and my friends 08 335I (twin turbo 6-cyl) He has a tune and intake. He was running 9.0-9.1
I tried both starting in first and second. If i was quick enough to catch the shift to second using the tip-tronic before it buried to redline, I would get the best 60 foot. Then shifting at 5krpms gave me the best trap speed of 79.2MPH
                                and im only FWD....
