  • RVC with RCD510

Now the there is the option with 2010 models to have teh RVC with the RCD510 has anyone with a 2010 had a look at the back of their RCD510 for A/V in or come across any info to utilise whatever is used for the RVC.

Does the RCD510 come out of the dash with standard VW Keys, i cant locate mine from my polo.

It would be interesting to know that one cos the 08 RCD510 certainly had no A/V in to allow for an RVC or any other source for that matter.

    Cheers

Here's the installation guide for installing into a Golf.

Installing a Golf Mark VI Rear View Camera (RVC) into a Golf Mark V

RCD 510 should have the following layout so the answer is yes you can add this camera to the head unit.

Are you sure that the 08 models didn't have the AV IO on the back panel? I had heard that early models didn't support it but wasn't sure if this was firmware or hardware. My post above has links to the AV IO details.

I was told it didn't and somebody sent me a picture of the rear of one for sale on eBay that didn't show any AV input but it could be hidden away amongst the "normal" connections I guess. I'd LOVE to find that I "could" run a camera direct into mine so I guess I need to find a way of confirming it one way or the other. While I'm a bit of a fiddler I really don't want to pull the head unit out myself but I guess if push comes to shove that's what I might have to do.

Thanks for the links though, it's always good to get more info.

          Cheers

update: I have noticed that this is definitely specs for a later version of the RCD510 as mine was one of the ones that would only take 2Gig SD cards etc.

NZ, don't worry about that, it's a 5 minute easy job and you'd be able to do it standing on your head.

cool, thanks for the info, i'm pretty sure the early model RCD510 have no A/V in, the MY10 is the only RCD510 to have the RVC as an option AFAIK.

I'm looking to make an adaptor to play video through the screen, not sure how yet, but might pull it out on the weekend.

It could be that there are two versions of the RCD 510 although I can't see a listing for two.

You may want to rethink that, there's CAN bus programming involved and the video is required in a specific format. Even companies like Kufatec can't get it right and they've been doing this for years.

Be worth pulling it out and taking some photos of the top and back however.

I didnt see any 2010 option when I made the purchase few weeks back. Still waiting for for mine expecting deilivery somewhere between January or February.

Anyone have any idea how much for the RVC option without the navigation pack?
Would my dealer still allow me to add option at this stage?

Why don't you ring the dealer if you are after a quick and accurate reply!

I went to some trouble to fit a reverse camera for my AVC9000-1. It worked fine (am waiting for a better camera installation). But I was surprised how useless it was in practice. You listen to the reversing beeps, look in the mirrors and all around you, but never down on the dash somewhere. It impresses the passengers, and looks the part, but actually you don't look at it. Bear this in mind before you spend $500 upgrading your system.

It's shocking being able to see the whole blind spot behind the car and with the use of the mirrors this gives you 100% visibility of what's behind you.[/sarcasm]

The Tiguan has the same problem the Golf does and that's poor rear visibility.

I use it all the time even if it's a quick glance to check before reversing but often it's eyes on the screen most of the time with a quick glance to the mirrors depending on the location. If you have a decent camera installed in the correct location they are worth their weight in gold.

Add in OPS and this shows you where and how far off obstacles you are.

You only have to prevent yourself from hitting one item (bollard, bike, kid, pet etc) in the whole time you own the car for it to pay for itself. OPS/PDC is not infallible and whilst it's a good system as is the camera they both compliment each other but if I had to choose one only I'd go with the camera.

Plus the added benefit is that it can see more than you can, the camera isn't behind tinted glass and it picks up a lot more than your eyes can. You can be reversing in a dark area but this camera really turns night into day. I'll try and take some photos tonight that will show this but haven't had much luck so far with the difference being obvious.

You might have a good point. I think it depends from where you're reversing and where to, if there are no people or anything moving fast I would prefer the camera or cameras and big screen. If there are people around I prefer to look around me.

I'm looking at this to buy for my T5 as reversing camera/screen dashboard setup. http://www.ryda.com.au/Polaris-7-Sup...or-p/cm700.htm

But for that money, the one can have AVC9000-1 or similar.

                          Hmm, hard decision.

I haven't looked... but I have the RCD510 sitting in my garage - as I upgraded to RNS510. I'm away for work at the moment - but can check when I get home in a week or so if no one else knows. (if I remember)
