  • Tiguan tinting in Sydney

    Hi guys.

Does anyone know who VW use to do tinting of Tiguans in Sydney? After my recent break-in I think I'd like to get my windows tinted, but am reluctant to get an unknown to do it. I figure the guys that do it for VW will have experience with the Tig and will do a good job.

Doing a search, this thread has some suggestions of tinters, but doesn't say whether they are the ones VW use, and whether they've done Tig's before.

Thanks in advance for your help!

OMG Arctra, just looking into tinting as well. I take delivery TOMORROW of my Tig.

I emailed a couple of Tint companies yesterday. I got one quote back so far. PM me for the company name (not sure I can/should name them), but they have franchises everywhere.
Normally $495-$445 but was given a price of $325 for tinting, that was their 'special price for June', but seeing I got the email yesterday i'll push for the lower price.

I'll keep you posted and see what the other company offers.

I got Solartint to do mine, $350. Looks like I'm going to have to take it back though as around the black dots on the edges of the rear windscreen and quarters isn't great. Typical of anything in Canberra though, never gets done right the first time

        PM sent Arctra.

Pullstarter, funny you should mention Solartint. They have tinted my last two cars and I've had no such issues. I think I'll be using them again.
I cant remember correctly but I think it can take some time for all the bubbles to work their way out of the tint. How long ago was it done? I'd take it back and ask too.

Rob Salvia. hunters hill window tinting but he'll come to you.

no idea if he's done a Tiguan, but he'd never touched a Skoda before he did mine & he did a great job (as usual) & didn't have to pull the car to bits.

He'll fit any tint you want - has all the samples on the back window of his Caddy.

Edit: Wrong Rob. Rob Salvia is Hunters Hilll Window Tint. New who I meant but wrong name.

It's been 3 weeks now Matt, I called the dude today and he's going to have a look at it on saturday for me. Apparently the black dots around the window edges can be an issue sometimes as they sit higher than the glass lifting the film etc. He reckons he can fix it easily so doesn't seem much of a hassle was just a bit disappointed in having to take it back.

I helped a friend of mine out a few years back who has been tinting for years.

Your correct with the black dot thingo's it can lift the tint and air can get under their, same with rear window heater elements, the use of a heat gun and spear card can get most of these out.

VW's were always a PITA because of the fury material around the windows edges, my friend was a perfectionist and the fury wind seals would put heaps of fine hairs under the tint, a senior in the game advised him to hit it with heat gun for a few seconds to "age" the fur which stoped all the loose stuff.

The other thing with VW's and a lot of european cars is the soft glass which was easily cut with the razor when creating templates or trimming.

Depending on how the tint is done depends on the finish, if all windows are done with a heat gun then you can generally put your windows down straight away, if not leave your car in the sun as much as possible and dont put the windows down for a day or 2, any small bubbles will mostly come out as the liquid evaporates, however some may require manual intervention with a razor and spear card or in worst case re-do the glass.

In one of my previous cars the tinter sneezed as he was doing the drivers window. Neeless to say i looked at the contents of his nose for a week or 2 until i took it back to get re-done

Nice! What percentage is that as a matter of interest?

I'm not sure what to go for on my Tig. Because it's black, I'm not sure what the tinting will do for the overall look of the vehicle, and whether I should go for a lighter or max legal tint.

Rob uses Solar Gard HP Supreme or Quantum and I'm not sure which to go for out of those 2 either. And hints/tips/suggestions would be welcome.

definately don't go any lighter than max legal - not worth it.

hopefully, I haven't got the names mixed up, but Supreme has a metalic sheen, which wasn't to my liking.

This is 25% Supreme - notice the metalic sheen - works with a silver car.

Quantum is a "flat" tint which i knew would look good on a red car.

/searches.. sorry, can't find a readily available photo of the Skoda with 205 Quantum. Will have a look tonight.

Found it. That's 20% Quantum IIRC

They are a 35% 3m film. I had it done at universal tint.
I had tints on a black xtrail and it made the car look great. IMO I'd go for just a black tint and avoid the metalic ones.

I wouldnt risk going any darker than legal. It can make seeing out at night difficult when parking/reversing in dark environments, and besides....

don't want to go attracting attention.

Well, Rob came and did my tint on Saturday (nice and early in the morning). I watched him do it and was very impressed. He was very friendsly and helpful, and I would definitely use him again.

I ended up going with the non-metalic sheen in the end. As Rob said to me, if I had more chrome, or intended to add any chrome, then the metalic sheen would be nice. But the Quantum with the flat black look is great. I went for darkest legal, but can see what people mean when they say it isn't that dark. My light interior doesn't help much either.

Sorry I don't have pics, but it was 7:30am on Sat when Rob arrived and the poor weather meant the light was bad anyway, so it was too dark to take decent pics. I tried, but they are useless.
