I have just had my 30,000kms service (2009 147TSI) and to date have not had any warranty issues at all.

I haven't found many warranty issues on this site that would cost more than a few dollars to fix and wondered about others warranty experiences. I am planning to keep my Tiguan for a few more years and am at the point of deciding on whether to spend some money on extended warranty or ECU upgrade.

Any big ticket claims I need to be aware of?

I had a steering rack replaced that evidently would have been a NZ$6000 bill and they're just playing with my park-assist that's playing up (at 3 years though). I'm keeping my Tig as I'm not convinced the DSG is any advantage to me so I'm looking at getting an extended warranty (not available through VW but is available through our VW agency).

      Cheers

Thanks Derek ..either of those would be well worth having warranty cover.
What do you mean by your park assist "playing up"?

Basically it's not working. Seems to have been caused by the change of rack but we're not certain of that as I don't use it a hell of a lot (I'm in a small town and do less than 10,000k pa). Went in for its final service under warranty last week (3 years) and they tried everything to fix it (everybody thought it was a coding issue but not so) without success, so they're waiting for info from Germany on where to go next. I'm not worried, the Tig (other than the rack) has been ultra-reliable and this "issue" is obviously not a common one as i haven't read about it anywhere else on the various forums. May well end up being one of the parking sensors playing up or something else that's a $10 part !!

          Cheers

            Hi all,

I have a had a few issues...some of which Ihave mentioned in earlier posts:
125 TSI manual. now has 65,000kms

Engine light kept flashing on... traced to a faulty manifold sensor (or something like that). Replaced under warranty
Loud squeaking and grinding (that sounds like springs without oil, or rusty gate hinges) whenever I go over bumps or speed humps at the front end... Turned out to be control arms they said...replaced under warranty. I have been complaining about this for over 35,000kms!!
Sounds like the rear left speaker is not sitting in correctly, or a plastic shroud somewhere near the speaker is vibrating when the stereo is on, esp if it is a track with loud bass. They cant trace it....

Thats the main things so far....

I also experience some knocking feeling & sound from the front when changing direction at slow speeds in car park at full lock.

It feels like spring has just popped out of the mount or something just straining and popping at full lock.

Will be bundling this with my parking sensor issue!

                  I don't normally!

But the closest one to me is Wally World.

Yep, they are the Turkeys who cant get my car right...even after countless opportunities to do so...

I will be going to CAMDEN GTI from now on for all services and work. I only use 'wallyworld' for the warranty stuff now...

                      I have an annoying problem.
The front driver visor will only stay in 2 positions - either in the 'parked' position, or the vertical position.
Very annoying for those times when the sun is just in your eyes, and perhaps the visor angled forward agains the screen would do.
I've had it replaced once under warranty - second one just did the same.

Also i've notice that the driver lumbar support does not stay on. I put it fully on, and if i'm on a long drive will have to put it back to fully on from about 2/3 on after only half an hour. Of course I have asked that this be replaced or fixed - that was 10,000Km ago. I think i'll be really kicking up a stink about it next service.

Otherwise all seems to be good.

I do hate the lag time that happens when going through music on an SD card. Apparently that's 'normal'

I just got mine back from Wallyworld (as aussietig so correctly put it).

They replaced the two control arms in the steering / suspension, as well as a few other things like tierod ends that had worn loose...
Dont know why they wore as they did. I never really go off road, and never abuse the car at all.

The loud squeaking and grinding noises have now dissapeared....THANKFULLY after 35,000 kms of bringing it to their attention.

Oh, and they damaged the car again while it was in! the weather shields were unstuck after the car washers touched it!. Funny that, cos when I took the car in, I had just fully polished it in the most detailed way too. It was the cleanest car in the entire lot...so dont know whay they felt it even needed to be washed!!!!
That now makes every single time they have the car, something gets damaged!!

Yes ... I suspect my front end noises will eventually turn out to be like your problems, if left to 35,000kms.

Only have under 5,000km at the moment!

Yes ... a real trap for young players!

Forgot to tell you ... you need to tell Wally to "Don't fcuken wash my car thanks!"

Furthermore, "Cause I can apply my own swirl marks to the body panels, with the orbital sander I have at home".

Ah I love your style Aussietig!!

Funny thing is, I have repeatedly told them not to wash it, but they still do it!

I had asked the manager of service to be personally rsponsible for the key too...so God knows how the car washer got hold of it!

Same here. I hate that service department...when they washed mine thankfully didn't leave any swirls...

I have just informed the lady who is the role of customer relations etc at the dealership about these and other issues relating to the care (or lack of) with my car.In all fairness, she is a very nice person, who takes the time to attend to things and always smooths over situations.

However, it seems that the follow through, and how this translates to the actual people doing the work is lacking...

Am waiting on her reply to see if Barloworld ever get my business again. At this stage I doubt it, and will indeed be chatting to a VW specialist instead.
