  • Warranty Issues?

    Hey Guys,
Thought i'd start an issues thread (hopefully it won't have any replies ). Anyone had any issues as yet with their Tigs and had them fixed under warranty? Any known problems we should be aware of?

    Cheers
    Simon

I have only discovered one fault since taking delivery of my Tig, and it's far from a show-stopper. One of the air vents fins is broken! I couldn't be bothered going straight away to get it fixed, I figured I'd just wait till my 7500km voluntary service to get it sorted. Will let you know how that goes.

      window switch

the right rear window switch is falling into the door, you can still operate but with some difficulty.

Not a real issue, as I rarely have passengers in the back and can still operate from the front. Will have it checked at 30k service.

        Couple of items

When I first picked up the Tig - the rear door external door handle would get stuck in the out/open position. When you would then close the door, it wouldn't close properly. A little bit of grease solved the very minor issue.

Major issue this morning...went to start the car and the lights came on and then everything went dead. VW Assist are on their way - will update once they look at the car. Could be battery, but it's only a few months old...

It make explain why the sunroof curtain was playing up, but then it cold just be an electrical fault, anyway more in an hour or so.

Update: Battery terminal was loose, so contact wasn't being made properly. 2 second fix, d'oh! Sunroof curtain still not working though.

Batteries are often disconnected during shipping. The dealership should be given a swift kick. as it should have been checked during Pre-Delivery.
As this stops you dead, it should be treated seriously by VW.

The outer rear door handles make a loud clonk when vigorously pulled.
The front ones do not - makes me think some cushioning is missing from the rear handles.

With your left foot sitting on the foot rest, kick your foot left and the panel makes a nasty flappy loose sound.

Sometimes the ignition key wont rotate that last 10 degrees to allow it to then be removed. Does not seem to be related to the steering lock.

Auto wipers are somewhat inconsistent as to when they operate.

The Tailgate requires a lot of force to close - you really have to get a good stance and grip.

I thought it was just my tailgate. Maybe an adjustment?

My ignition switch is fine, but I had a new Golf on loan when the Tig was being serviced, it was hopeless to get out. Had to turn it off, then turn ignition back on, and then off again to get it out!

But apart from the tailgate needing to be closed very firmly, I've not had a single fault with the Tig.

It's really nice when everything "just works" (unlike my Honda that went through a main ECU, ignition relay, auto trans ECU and a coil pack ).

My tail gate only requires the lightest of force to shut it, I think you guys should be asking about that at your next service.

I find with the auto wipers if they aren't turning on when you want them to give the stalk a nudge to the off position then back to auto, seems to work on mine. Almost like they need "waking up"

ahh, thanks Simon, was hoping they weren't all the same. You really have to slam mine very firmly to get it closed. Might have a look myself as I just had it serviced and forgot to mention it.

Once mine gets passed the strut fulcrum i just let it go and it shuts itself. Should just need an adjustment I reckon.

I did have an annoying rattle in mine when I first picked it up, only happened when there was no one in the front passenger seat. Eventually I figured out the belt buckle was tapping against the centre console, a quick bend and she was all good Although I do have a very minor rattle from the front passenger side door trim. I think having been taken on and off twice now for stereo and tinting something may not be clipped in properly, will have to check one of these days I guess. But it is VERY minor and barely audible, but I'm a fussy barstood

I forgot, I had this fault too. You'd think VW would have found this one out early in the test programme

You'd think the $3000 you pay for pre delivry would cover it too huh?

You must be really unlucky. Get it fixed. My wifes Golf MkV is a bit like that but my Tiguan is fantastic, just lower it to where the struts are equalised and the tailgate just closes with letting go, about a foot away from striking shut. Magic! and does it every time. I am so thrilled about this.

Don't forget chaps, when you shut the car up and hold the remote button down, the sunroof shuts from even full open and the blind shuts as well. (Just in case you forget in a car park or the rain is coming before you get to the car in time.)

Anyone got a fix for this as I have 18in New York alloys that make going over speed humps really annoying as the buckets hit the B pillars.

I have an RHS dash air vent at the front with a really small chipped paint on the edge. Took me 2 weeks to spot it as it is hidden by the steering wheel, but I guess like some of us, once you spot a defect it stands out saying I paid $50K for this defect, I asked the dealer but they tried to say the dash would have to come out. Personally to me it looks like it clips out.

One point I would like to know is if anyone hears the door rubbers creak in the morning when reversing out of my driveway over an incline (body twisting). I have a sunroof which probably weakens the body, but I never noticed it when new, after 10 weeks seems to be worse, so I might armoral the door rubbers.

I had a rear boot trim replaced last week cause the dealer scratched it putting the tow bar in and removing the boot floor. Take care chaps as the rear plastics mark real easy, especially with suitcases, at least mine was replaced after I marked it myself. Dealer did a good job.

Also anyone who wants to fit the chrome baggage hooks PM me for the part number. Cost me $36, but I should have had it out with VW Aust.
The dealer told me a story of 2 brothers bought Golfs R32 I think. VW stopped fitting some wheel bit and one missed out and complained. VW should make good when they are caught out, but as we all know the fine print has "subject to change".

Yep, I don't have a sunroof and mine is very noticeable. As I've said before, I think there's a fair bit of flex in the chassis of the Tig. I wouldn't be getting too carried away with one. And for what they weigh, I expected a little more rigidity.

Check out my problem here, I may have a "lemon" car but you would think the dealer or VW themselves would help, but no that would be way too much for them.
