  • Tig Novated Lease Eligibility

    Hi all,

starting a new job next week (ho ho ho!) and found out that the place has some very nice novated lease options. Looks like it's going to be the best way for me to make my Tig dream come true.

There's a catch though: I can only use this lease option for Australian made or assembled cars -- ouch. The only exemption is given if the car type I want is not manufactured here, e.g. people movers or small 4 cyl cars.

Does anyone know if diesel Tig falls into this category -- we do have Ford Territory and Holden Captiva, but surely they are not 'compact SUVs' and not diesels? Have anyone got a Tig leased under these conditions?

    Thanks!

Presumably those rules are specific to your company only, as there was absolutely no problem with me getting the Tig on Novated Lease. We do ours through SMB Fleet I believe.

Even so, I don't believe either the Ford Territory or the Holden Captiva are assembled locally. According to Redbook, the Territory is assembled in Aus, but the Captiva is assembled in THAILAND.

I'm sure you'll be able to come up with a creative solution to your problem though

The option of park assist is not available of any of those cars. I dont know if that is a valid argument.

I'm not sure how they can put conditions on what car you choose to lease. After all, if you enter into a novated lease agreement, the money that is being used to pay for the car is yours, as will be the car at the end of the lease agreement. I'm leasing my Tig here where I work and I could pick any car i like. There is a bloke here who's purchased a Porsce Boxster on a novated lease. I'd get them to explain to you why it is that it has to be an Australian made car.

you'll be fine. There is no comparable Australian made vehicle. If you wanted to buy a 4 door sedan or wagon or a hatch you might be in trouble. Other than that, go for your life.

The term "very nice novated lease options" makes me think it isn't actually a proper Novated lease but possibly a lease back scheme or a modified novated lease. ie: it's a lot cheaper than normal. My lease is $18k pa; my wife's lease is only $5kpa for a more expensive vehicle.
Because her lease is so cheap, her employer has a big say in what car she gets and how often it gets replaced, where it gets serviced, what replacement tyres go on it, etc.

Thanks for the responses, guys! I don't know all the details about the lease deals available, will know more next week.

The fact that there are no local analogues to the Tig is very reassuring

              Will keep you posted!

that may not matter. as brad has said... some company's can have a list of cars that you can get... especially if they are paying for some of it.
my leasing is done on whatever car i want and however many cars i want (subject to finance of course).
our staff have a slightly different arrangement where they are capped at a certain price (depending upon their pay level) and if they go above they have to pay the extra.
