  • Just signed up here after browsing the forums (previous Honda owner ) anyway i'm looking at purchasing a 125TSi for the mrs.

Went to barloworld today (both branches) and was quoted:

    Tiguan MY11 125TSI Manual
    Candy White
    Comfort Pack
    Mats

    35k at glen waverly
36k at bayside (but sales guy was tempted to sign for 34k after a bit of haggling for 30+ mins)

so, is 34,000 drive away a decent price for this, i wouldn't mind fogs as well but this car is already in stock. Thinking of the apr chip later on too.

wanted to trade the jazz in but getting stuff all so that will be a private sale...

    • I've studied 4 recent Tiguan (2011 model) purchases posted in VWWatercooled Australia - VWWatercooled
I've compared the official VW RRP price list – (as given to me by the sales guys) with the drive away price paid by the poster.
Of course any chosen options as posted have been taken into my calculations.
Discounts have been in the region of $3152 (7.3%) to $6280 (13.5%).

The average discount on full RRP is around 10%.

Armed with this knowledge, I am ready to do begin negotiations with VW sales guys in my area (Melbourne & Canberra)

Tig 103TDI DSG (auto) 43,452 (RRP on road)
      White (no metal paint cost)
      Black Leather/Elec. seat = $4000
      Bi-Xenon/dynamic cornering headlights = $2000
MDI $270 (plug in yr iPod with adaptor in centre console box)
      RRP = $49,722
      10% off = $44,749
Now to make my offers. Wish me luck!

(P.S. I've been told and read that waiting times on non-stocked Tig's is up to 6 months! Also be aware a "mid model update" is due in late 2011 with a new look & LED driving lights option rumoured. Perhaps more.)

Thanks Zhenjie, Was that a manual or automatic (DSG) ?
          If manual, 38122
          +1000 (comfort) +280 (mdi) +300 (offroad) + 550 (bluetooth)
(not including mats, boot inlay - not sure what they are worth)
          =40252 (discount 1252)
          Auto = 40682 + options
          =42812 (discount 3812)

with corporate discount I'm going to guess u got the DSG (auto)
          = 8.9% discount
well done Zhenjie! I am told discounting only happens on IN STOCK cars, like yours.
If you have to order one from Germany ... discounting is much less

About that boot inlay, the cheapest cargo liner costs $155. The reversible mat is $248.

Yes it was the 7spd DSG, model was in stock picking up next week. Didn't really ask about custom orders discounting, but I would still think min 5-8% discount is possible.

Don't get the protection pack, it is worthless.
$63k is quite a bit of money, have you used the spreadsheet to work out the costs of all the options and worked out if you are getting any discount?

Is the RNS510 essential with the park assist/RVC as they can be had on ebay for under $1000 which saves you another $1500

Is the Off-road tech necessary for you?
I wouldn't be taking my car offroad if i paid over 60k for it.

                  • I think you got smoked on that price... and make sure you drive one first... the acc is a waste of time in the tiguan. We bought the same spec minus leather acc and the rns510 for $54k

                    • Cheers Team_V / angryman...valid points, thanks for the feedback...

I guess the big point here is drive-away-ability...ie I don't actually have to wait for the thing to be built. Looking at the pricing, I'm getting a discount of about $3,500, not a huge deal by any means.

team_v - offroad tech/RNS510 is non-essential, but it's in the vehicle on the dealers lot...so it's a bot hard to remove I guess?!

angryman, can you elaborate or point me in the direction of why you think ACC is a WOT in the Tig?

                      • Before we bought ours we took a 147 for a strap up through the hills and honestly you don't need it. At the end of the day its an SUV not a race car. The ride was very compliant and quite comfortable. My impression of the ACC in the new Golf R I've bought is that it is useful in softening up the stiff sports suspension and you could definitely (in my opinion) tell the difference when taking the demo though the same section of road. So no, from what we saw the Off road and the ACC was really not worth it and we live in North Queensland so it will see its fair share of dirt!

                        • I would try asking one of the friendly dealers on the forums if they can find a car in stock in the Country that is to your preferred spec's.
Find out what you need/want and then see what they can do for you.

63k is a lot of money to be throwing around for a car with options you may not ever use/need or can get cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks angry...but like you, I have ordered a fully spec'd R for myself, and this is the wife's car (we're sharing until my R turns up in June). So for the sake of $300 or so, I'm not too worried, and if she ends up at her sisters farm in VIC, she may have a need for it after all)

I guess the point is...happy wife, happy life (yeah, really?!?!). This thing is sitting at a dealers, no wait time, I can get pre Xmas and keep the other half happy. I lose my 310Kw ride in the meantime, but get the joy of a pocket rocket in 6 months time.

Thanks team, but I'm one of those people that ALWAYS spends more than I have to for great technology I will never, ever use...I've come to terms with this!

Really, as mentioned above, this is a compromise car for 6 months, I lose my 310Kw weapon, and share this with my wife until my R arrives in June. Thanks for the feedback, you're the one that is responsible for me buying a Tig in the first place, after reading about your trials and tribulations.

                              Keep up the good work!

At least you managed to get a 3.5k discount.

You never know, the benefits of the tig may sway you to use it and not bother with the R
