    • Got mine about 2 weeks ago.

      Got a white 125 TSI
      Comfort Pack
      Sunroof
      Rubber Mats
      Ipod Dock
      Reversible Boot Liner
      Full Tinting
      Paint Protection

      $37,899 Drive Away.

Mind you I took advantage of the sale that is now on with the free on-roads.

      Cheers, Delan

      • Seems like you got the drive away price + full RRP for the options.

Just to note, the Tint is only worth $245 and paint protection is worthless.
So you paid essentially 4k for sunroof, comfort pack ipod dock and rubber protection mats.

        • Yeah, I recognise that I didn't really get much of a discount. the tinting was $600 as it was an aftermarket option not a factory one. The paint protection/interior protection was essentially free, hence the only reason I did it.

One thing that got me to agree was the fact they had one in stock of the spec that I was after which meant no waiting. I needed a new car urgently as I had some mechanical issues with my second car at home (1990 Peugeot 405 Mi16) and I wasn't about to spend a couple of grand to fix something which isn't worth that much money. (this will be fixed by me, so there is no time pressure now as we have a reliable second car in the Tig)

according to my calculation i saved almost $1000 all up. I'm pretty happy with that considering the number of people who were after a tig at that point in time and the limited stock that was available.
I got mine from Barloworld in Five Dock.

To top it off, I actually liked the sales guy.. I usually despise them (considering I'm in sales myself).

          • At least you got the onroads for free and didn't have to wait.
A saving of $1000 is still reasonable

            • sorry to revive this thread. Being in a new model year now, is the spreadsheet still valid? How much discount do you guys think is possible and should be aiming for?

              • don't see why this should not be alive. I would expect a discount in the range of 10-15%

                  Fog lights
                  Comfort package

                  Media-in

                  Bluetooth phone
                  Media-in Adaptor Cable I-Pod
                  Carpet floor mats

Wow, looks like you loaded the 125 up pretty much to the hilt.
Just wondering why you didn't go the 147 as most of the options were included in it?

Danny, in my experience dealers will rarely offer more than what they get for your trade in wholesale, which is often a fair bit less than you can sell the car for privately. If they do offer more, they are probably only giving on one hand what they are taking away with another (ie giving you less of a discount on the car itself.

So bit of a hassle, but you will probably get a fair bit better price selling your car privately than trading it in.

Appreciate there may be other reasons for just 'tradin' her in' but for me I'd go straight to that option next time I buy a car from a dealer. That way the deal you are getting is very clear and not murkied by whatever is happening with the trade in.

                      • So for the last almost year I have been close to purchasing a Tig. Things that have delayed me are Price, 6 month wait and all the new models that were trickling out in this class this year. Apart from the Skoda yeti everything is now out and the Motorshow starts tomorrow.
Time to buy...but has anything changed to make a Tig affordable?

                        I am looking for
                        125 / DSG $36.5
                        Comfort $1
                        Park assist $1.4
                        mdi .27
                        New Bluetooth .5
                        Off road .3
                        Cornering fogs .4
Bi-xenons * which on a 125 always seem to be an order only 2.0
                        plus mats, tow prep
                        ~ $43 + $4 o/r

So $43 is a little more pricey than sportage/asx/i35/dualis+2/Koleos/Forester/...yeti? - most of these top end models can get onroad for $40-$42 (no xenons except forester and koleos)

$47 is the onroad for the tig and that is significantly more - so my dilemma is what to do.
My other concerns are that the rumored facelift for the tig next year, the strong Aussie dollar, and end of year sales, I figure a tig is now overpriced and might be affordable if I keep waiting...or I can forgo the great drivetrain and handling (and maybe xenons) and get the yeti (if it appears tomorrow) or one of these other ones now, cheaper...

                        • If you are going to stick with the Tig. Wait for the facelift if you can wait, and only until you see it in the showroom then you know you be getting the facelifted version. Sometimes dealer tells you a date when in actual fact it was just a wild guess.

Otherwise you probably won't feel great when you see the shiny facelifted version on the road when you have just collected your brand new "old" version Tig after 4 months of waiting. Just my experience and opinion....

I thought about it, but even with these options, the 147 was around $6k more expensive and the remaining differences were not really anything that I wanted (that much).

Most of the other cars you have outlined are jap-spec type cars which tends to be a bit basic in the interior.
A lot of them are also not what i would choose for a soft-roader type vehcilel (especially the ASX)

If you remove park assist (not needed, no one ever uses it) and and the fogs (also not needed) then you save almost 2k.
I have the standard halogen lights with uprated bulbs and they are perfect for what is needed, that saved me 2k as well.

Doing this will bring your price on-road to 43k

I want rear sensors and front would be helpful...so whilst I may not use auto park often, it's something I will use. Most of the vehicles I have mentioned also have reverse cameras which are a step up on the tig.

As for lights, I wear glasses and am getting old, I routinely drive with and without xenons, and they help allot. Bulb upgrades are not really like true swiveling xenons and might even be illegal if they don't direct the increases light way from oncoming traffic. Cornerign fogs I think will help allot as many of the suburb roads around where I am have poor street lighting and no footpaths so cornering commonly encounters joggers and dog walkers.

So I don't want to compromise. If I drop xenons then the other vehicles actually become more attractive since they all come with leather, reverse cameras, many with better warranties and cheaper services, and other interesting things like sunroofs, led running lights, bigger boots, better spare wheels...
