looking for a great deal on a tiguan 103tdi

Hi,

Newbie here.

I've finally convinced myself that I could live with a Tiguan for the next 10 years rather than a CR-V. Now the next thing to do is to get myself a fantastic deal.

Been reading the posts here and it seems that Sharkie has an opinion that there's plenty of TDIs around which is good as that's the one that I want.

So here's my specs:
103 TDI auto
Leather
Sunroof
Comfort pack
Rear parking sensors
Mats

The RRP without any negotiating was given to me at about $52,500 driveaway. Wow! Figured I get Tint Professor to put in the tint for me at $300 rather than giving VW $500 for the same.

So I said to the salesguy that I didn't want to waste my time or his time and ask what discount I could realistically get cos if I can't get it to my budget then I'll shop somewhere else. He responded by saying that he believe he could get it down to around $48,000 but he needed to check with his manager and I can't quote him on that.

Been looking around in www.carsales.com.au and found that $46,000 would be a good deal.

Has anyone recently bought one with similar specs and what sort of prices did you pay? Also did anyone sign up for leather protection, paint protection etc ?

Most people tell me that it's a rip off and I shouldn't bother. I could get similar DYI products and save a fortune.

I took the opportunity to insist to speak to the after-sales lady and she gave me ball park figure of $2000 for leather and paint protection including tinting and reverse parking sensors. So working it out that’s about $700 for the leather and paint proection. Not sure whether rust protection is included but then again, does VW make such lousy cars until we need to go get rust protection as well?

Hi -
1. Make sure you are eligible for fleet pricing worth $3k - not hard to get, esp these days: sign up your work (no obligation, just a form to forge, I mean fill in), or if they are already in it, sign a form to confirm you are an employee.
2. Consider Park Assist for $1400. This is both front and rear sensors. I am suspicious your quote includes dealer rather than factory fitted fitted sensors
3. Don't buy any dealership add ons. Vehicles are properly rust protected. Actually, they drill holes to put in their spray goo, which exposes the vehicle to rust. The goo can jam up mechanisms. Don't do it. The leather is fine from factory for a year or two. Leather conditioning is an ongoing thing. Buy the conditioners and apply regularly.
4. Given your questions, you sound as if you would be better off using a car broker to negotiate a deal. At minimum, expect "on-road" for RRP. Stretch for 5% better than this.

Buy close to the end of a month. Sales staff get increasing commission the more they sell during the month so their last sales in each month are worth more to them than the first, so generally they're more prepared to deal then.

You should also be able to get a much better deal on one that's already in the Country and ready to go rather than one specifically built for you. We picked the best of those that were already in NZ and those already on the way (ours was already produced and awaiting shipment to NZ at the time) and got a better deal than if we'd waited BUT when we bought ours they were VERY hard to get at all so the deals weren't as good as they are now.

They said I could choose between a dealer fitted or factory fitted reverse sensors for the same price i.e. $800. The difference being the dealer fitted one had an LCD display to show how far objects are and the factory fitted only had audible sounds.

I don't really need Park Assist. Never had issues with parallel parking but if they do come with front and rear sensors that might help as vision isn't the best especially in the rear.

Just to let you know...I don't think there is a factory fitted rear parking sensor only, I'm pretty sure they stopped doing that last year, I think your dealer is wrong. The factory only fits the park assist and IMHO it is worth it, if you get the RCD510 radio system (Dynaudio) the onscreen display is awesome even if you don't use the auto park feature.

The screen on the standard RCD-310 radio in the TDI is very small and basic and not colour like the RCD510, the park assist sensors still show up but it doesn't look as good. I would double confirm if the dealers sensors appear on the radio screen, the TDI's I drove with dealer fitted sensors only beeped!

Also if you are thinking of using an iPod in the car get the factory fitted MDI, it is way cheaper and safer to have it fitted in the factory than by the dealer (as they need to pull your dash and centre console apart to fit it). The dealer will charge heaps to fit the MDI aftermarket (double the factory price).

I used Lexol cleaner and conditioner on my leather seats, great products (recommended on the Vortex Forum), non greasy and keeps the matt finish of the leather (both bottles for $50 delivered), keep it up every 2-3 months and you'll have beautiful leather for years.

RE mats, I got the premium carpet mats which are a rip off but I've tried to find aftermarket ones that fit in the foot wells...it is not easy as they are all too big!

Good luck (def go for the fleet discount if u can $2k discount + dealer del down to $995 so it's more like $4.5K discount!).

Some dealers list their stock on carsales, so if you do a search you'll see there's over 100 listed new TDIs (and about 30 petrols), so there are certainly lots of diesels around.

Leather, paint protection etc are not worth the extra $$ IMO, but this article here http://www.carbroker.com.au/paint-pr...protection.php suggests it's not all useless.

Same here BUT as soon as you put the luxury pack (leather etc) on here you get the RCD510 as part of the deal, and roof storage if you don't have the sunroof. That was what I was trying to point out.

No lux pack here in Oz. There is a comfort pack, but no upgrade to RCD510 AFAIK.

Almost all (if not all) of the TDis listed on carsales are 08 built (there are a few 09s listed, but I would check to see if they are 08 built 09 complied). Given that posters on this forum have mentioned at least 2 Tig shipments due early this month, there should be a bit more pressure on dealers to get rid of their 08 stock. If you are not in a rush and are willing to opt for an 08 vehicle, waiting till end of this month or June may pay off. VW might even have to consider a "free on roads" offer for 08 Tigs by next month. of course, this is all supposition.

The deal I got is $2.7k off plus $900 delivery charge fleet quote. The long option list might contribute to my bargin power but a fleet quote is fundamental to get any big price drop on tiguan order.

Reading the brochure that I got both the TDI and 125 TSI comes with RCD310 standard. The 147 TSI comes with RCD510 standard.

I believe RCD510 comes with a 6 cd changer plus touch screen.

And in all 3 models we can opt for the RNS510 which is basically Sat Nav.

Which means DynAudio is an additional option that doesn't come standard with any of the 3 different audio systems above.

Am I right?

Also if I were to get Park Assist and the std RCD310 would I get a visual display for both front and rear sensors or just audible beeps?

If not do I need to upgrade to RCD510 or RNS510 to get a visual display? I'm not too fuss with not having a 6cd changer plus touch screen but would prefer a visual display for both front and rear parking sensors.

I'm also attempting to get a quote from www..betterdeal.com.au. See what I get and then use it as my basis for my negotiation.

Dynaudio is an extra option regardless which model you choose. It also comes with RCD510 which is a great unit to play with.

With RCD310, you will still get visual display from park assist but does not look great.

btw: I'm glad that I chose Dynaudio, not only sounds good but brings the RCD510. 300W is enough for me and shall get better after break-in

The RNS510 isn't just a Sat Nav. It has a 30GB hard drive and built-in DVD drive. I believe you do lose the 6CD changer on the RCD510.
