  • 2014 TIGUAN TDi EGR woes

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there has had this similar problem or ideas as to what it may be.

My daughters 2014 TIGUAN TDi Pacific recently had EGR woes and the EGR was replaced at great cost. Before you ask it was non genuine part but it appeared to be brand spanking new and the mechanic commented that apart from not being in a VW parts box he would not have known any different. After fitment the action of the EGR was checked and all was good and it was recalibrated.

Since the replacement we have had an interesting problem arise and I cannot and the mechanic cannot understand what the hell is happening. Everything is fine for some time but as the fuel gauge reaches HALF the EGR light comes on and stays on. She might drive like this for another 100- 200K or one to two days (we are in Southern Highlands south of Sydney). She then fills the car up, starts the car and the EGR light disappears. This wasn't a fluke and has happened continuously since the EGR was fitted about 3-4 weeks ago. Half a tank- light ON ---> fill the tank - Light OFF.

Does anyone have ANY thoughts on this as I can't see how they would be related but obviously they appear to be.

It could be that the ECU is not happy with the non genuine component, which is not that unusual.

Quite possible, but most of these after market parts are made by the same manufacturer of the OEM part. Anyway why would the display occur only at about a half a tank. According to the mechanic the EGR appears to be working fine.

...and after the manufacturer checked their supplied components, some were rejected and not accepted, so the components manufacturer received them back and somehow they found the way to eBay and other stores.

TOUCHE`. However if we can't find a work around I think she will just have to live with it as it doesn't seem to affect the car. Also I can't afford the all up total of $1500 to $1700 plus for the genuine part and the install
