At least make sure you have the latest revisions of the timing chain tensioner. To check and replace it is close $1000 but still better than kill the engine. Any VW mechanic should be able to do the job.
We’re wrecking Octavia RS of the same age with the same engine because of failed tensioner.
Mine is a 2012 TSI 132 manual AWD as well. Currently at 245k km.
Timing chain tensioners give a slight tick when revs drop and fair bit of oil use. About to get some engine work as I want to keep it.
Including tensioners and chain.
Wondering if new pistons or just rings is worth doing.
