Whats your Tiguan worth as a trade

Today i thought i might drop into my friendly VW dealer and find out the value of my 130 Diesel Tiguan was worth as a Trade in ,
This vehicle is unmolested has only 17,775km and is in immaculate condition ,
Extras are Sidesteps .Door protection strips ,Bonnet and headlight protectors and weather shields ,Mudflaps Tinted windows and has DRL in the grill . And is Charcoal is a 7 speed DSG
,Also has Paddle shift steering wheel, RNS510 media centre and rear facing video head rests
First rego was 22/09/14 ,Originally paid $42,500 , Today the VW dealer said it was worth between $14,000, and $18,000
Carsales are selling the same vehicle with higher Km up to $25,000
So whats your vehicle worth ?

No mater what brand, the value of your vehicle after 3,4,5 years is not the same what it once was.
Take the advice of your dealer and sell it privately, or perhaps you didn’t get that far in conversation with him?

All they've done is log on to Redbook; if you were lucky and ready to deal there might be a wholesaler who pays a few k over the odds if they think they can flip it quickly.

I had that on my R wagon a few months back - I got one wholesaler who ended up paying 4-5k more than anyone else. And as it turned out, more than anyone else was willing to pay used private as well.

Unfortunately it's a 4 year old car (out of warranty) and even though it has exceptionally low km the dealer is just looking up the trade value for the model/year.

I suspect it would only sell for low $20's - if you want to recoup some of your $ I'd sell off the accessories separately. You'll always get more selling it privately but it can take longer and is more work.

Also don't think just because there's a car advertised for a price in carsales that's what you're going to get. These are people's starting prices (and some are plain unrealistic) and not the final selling price.

That’s a reasonable offer. Though it always depends on the “deal” as they can make your trade-in look better if they don’t give you as much discount on the new car.

Trade in prices really have to be put into context. If you nail the dealer down on the price of the new car don’t expect an amazing trade-in.

Though you can sometimes get lucky and get a good deal at both ends but that’s usually the exception.

I'd say these days it can often be independent though, no matter how the salesperson wants to dress it up.

It's very rare for a dealer to sell the trade in themselves; in most cases it's just gone to the highest bid from the wholesale pool. So if you're buying, just drill the new car price down - your 'trade' is almost certainly fixed regardless.

Used car yards will generally put $5k on top of the buying price to repair cosmetic damage, new tyres, brakes, basic service, rego, 1,000 point safety check, etc and then to make a profit margin to pay for salaries, rent, advertising, computers, phones, interest on loans, etc.

If you don’t want to pay for all this stuff then sell it privately but get ready for about 10 low-ballers for every 1 serious buyer.

When you list out all the requirements, plus stat warranty coverage, it's not a space I'd want to play in.

Only a 10:1 ratio??

I actually had a Wolf R owner on here "highball" me wondering why I let it go so "cheap". Sometimes car price reality escapes a lot of people.
