Tiguan key

Modern car keys are expensive to replace, so when my second car key for a 2011 TDI Tiguan went missing I was annoyed at the potential cost to replace the key. It hasn't been replaced yet and I wondered if there was any electronic trickery that would help an owner to find the lost key? I know you can buy key finding gadgets but unfortunately this set of keys didn't have any gadgets attached. Any ideas?
