Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • AUX plug

HI guys just took delivery of a manual Mountain Grey Tiguan on friday and we are more than impressed so far!!
I have one query we got the ipod connector, and although it gives good sound it dosent give you full functionality of song lists etc...
Now i went to plug it in via the AUX port in the center console and its dead
Rang the dealership just before and they thought that only cars with satnav get the aux port and we have it by mistake (bonus) and to drop into an auto electrician to wire it up!! so was wondering doe's anyone else have this same set up/ problem, or do they disconnect the aux port for the ipod to work.

    cheers

    re AUX plug

problem sorted, spoke to salesman here in cairns, and when the ipod cable is connected they disconnect the AUX plug at the back of the stereo....
for me i think the AUX plug is the better option for connecting ipods to the stereo, as you have FULL control over all your music, and the ability to plug a laptop in for movies etc.

This seems crazy, VW market the AUX input as a standard accessory.

There is a note in the feature list that states you cannot install an iPod adapter with a 6 disc CD changer, but Volkswagen do not notify customers on either the iPod adapter or feature list that installing an iPod adapter will prohibit the use of the AUX input.

Think this is one for VW to consider!

Only thing about using aux is that the audio is converted from digital to analogue before it goes into the stereo, so you will get a loss of sound quality. If you are running it off the ipod dock, the deck plays the files, so you retain the audio quality.

Yeah your right but im assuming it would still be better than an FM transmitter, and i would rather have average/radio quality sound from my ipod and be able to access all my tracks than listen to some of the muppet radio stations up here...

One thing to check on (heard this on another site, I'm not an ipodder myself) is that evidently the ipod has a built in graphic equalizer that is set up for tiny in-ear speakers, so you want to turn that OFF completely and let your head unit do the equalising !! Evidently makes the ipod music playing VASTLY better even if it's just through the standard connector.

            Cheers

Doesn't it just pass sound through the Tig's deck?

So if you have a DAC in your MP3 player that is as good as the Tig's deck you would get same sound (assuming of course you had a WAV file / very low loss audio file playing and a good quality input cable from MP3 player to Tig's AUX in jack)?

EDIT: The Tig does have a good audio system, well not too bad and much better than our Golf V Comfortline.
So...I tested it this this arvo with a track that I've been using to audition speakers for our home stereo (one day...) and the loss through the AUX in jack is almost incomprehensibly low.
