Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Reverse Parking Sensors

    Hi Tiguaner's,

    Purchased a My13 TS yesterday, looking to add reverse sensors, mine has the RCD310, I don't have any need for GPS and am looking at a cheap DIY or reasonable (under $500) OEM solution.

    I don't need a glamorous solution, integration with the RCD 510 would be preferable, but a ebay $50 kit which connects to cabling in the boot (reverse light?) would be ok, as long as I can hear it.

    Looking around, I seem to have 3 main options;
    - cheapie / generic install
    - OPS install with Canbus coding (Any idea how much a local shop / VW service centre would charge)?
    - RCD 510 with reverse camera (seems over my budget unless these come up used frequently)

    Whilst I probe the Web and VWW for details, I would appreciate any advice.

    The OEM basic parking sensors work well enough, and are easy to install.

    Providing your Tiguan isn't an R-Line, you won't need to get them painted either, as they're a flat black plastic which blends into the textured bare plastic on the lower half of the rear bumper.

    Contrary to what the instructions say, everything you need with regards to the revers wire, and grommet to push the wires through, is at the right rear corner.

      Thanks.

      So if I procure OEM sensors and find where they wire to in the loom, I assume I will need to get VCDS / Canbus codes done through dealership?

        Nope. It just powers up off the reverse light wire, which is easy to locate.
