Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I look forward to the day when VW allow over the air updates. Parked in my garage, I can easily see my home wifi and I can connect to it through the wireless network from the car. Would be sweet just to be able to hotspot a phone (or connect to the home wifi network), and then just do a "check for updates" button press on the headunit.

...it’s 2018... it should be constantly updating in the background and never need us to push a button to trigger updates. Same with firmware... should be freely available and over the air. Tesla have got that bit right.

Personally would prefer restrictions on any sort of any long range wireless connectivity. Secondly I wouldn't want the VW to be silently updating the software....I mean VW/Bosch are well known to be experts at inserting hidden intelligent algorithms. Who outside of VW vets the software anyway?? Wouldn't want it to become a bloat virus like the current iteration of Windows OS (Windows 10).

Hmm... What a fancy name for hacker, computer scientist researcher. Of course one can hack anything, man built it’ll, man can break into it.

Fair point - I was dreaming. It’s 2018, software is bloated, buggy and leaky
