After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Hi All,

I love this forum for all the great detail it provides that your local dealer will not disclose.

    I'm looking to buy a 162TSI + DAP + RLine+ Sunroof + Bootliner. ( I'll be getting tint done separately)

    I'm looking at two options,

1: Torment all the VW dealers in the SEQ area and wade through their BS. I hate the junior salesperson that just does not know enough about the cars and tries to BS a sale at list price.

    OR

2: like I did with my current MK7/MY13 Golf go through a broker( Straton / CarConnect).

When I bought my Golf through Straton the last time they saved about 13% of retail and even got some free services thrown in. The car actually ended up coming from Sydney rather than a Qld dealer.

@MiiLos Do you have a contact in Crikes that you would recommend?

I am seeing a lot more R lines on the road now. Surely the pricing should settle a bit.

        • Hi guys
Was recently quoted driveaway 58.5k for fully optioned black MY18 Tig. Expected delivery mid to late May.

Is this a good deal? Does the delivery date sound about right?
          Cheers

The R pack is $4000 and sunroof $2000 if I recall correctly. Considering I got a highline with DAP and metallic (no R or sunroof) for $51250, your quote seems a bit expensive.

I was initially negotiating on a 132tsi and got the car with DAP down to about $44k. But when I added Luxury Pack they just added on the $5000 it costs and wouldn't budge from $49500. They said there are no margins when adding options. So basically I could get the base of the car down by quite a bit but adding any options cost me what the options retailed for.

Then knowing I could negotiate on a base model I started negotiating on a highline base and added DAP. And it worked because it only cost me a little more than a fully optioned 132tsi. All I'm missing is the sunroof but I get the better engine, metallic paint (the 132 was negotiating was white) and better lighting system. And dare I say resale on the highline will be better than a fully optioned comfortline.

So going by that theory your buying a car with $6000 more options than my car. So if we take what I paid, about $51250 you should be paying about $56000 for it. And I haven't secured the best deal on the forum nor am i implying I have.

If I were you, I'd offer them $55k and see how you go. See how their counteroffer goes or maybe they will accept yours. Walk away and phone some other dealers saying your keen to buy if they can bring it down to under $56k. I had to go a bit outside the metro area to get my deal, inner city dealers didn't want to go down in price.

            PS
If your not picky on colour it also makes it easier as I found the car I got was one they had in stock. It's blue and I actually like that colour so a win/win.

I’d be contacting some of the regional and interstate dealers. You’re looking at ~$800 to freight a car interstate or $200 for flights and a tank or 2 of petrol.

If you know the deals on offer then see if they’re prepared to bargain. End of month is the best time to secure a deal with a dealership looking to reach a sales target. You just have to find the dealer that is desperate for a sale and you’ll get the best price.

              • Thanks tigger - I'm in SA and have contacted all VW dealers so far. that was the best price i could get.

Are there any known problems with the new Tiguan that i should know of?

Is there anything else i should be looking at before i put a deposit down?

                Cheers

The biggest problem with the Tiguan R-line is getting hold of one!!!

There's no major issues with the car as far as I'm aware. Transmission is the same as previous generation and it's pretty bullet-proof. Motor is same as Mk7 GTI and any early issues have been well and truly sorted by now.

There's always going to be the odd thing slip through production but that's what dealer/warranty is for.

If you know the exact spec you're after, you could also try a car broker. Others have used them with some success previously. Or go on carsales and find the dealer with the colour you're after in stock and see if they are prepared to make a deal.

                  • The 132 and 162 Tigs have the new-to-VW DQ500 7-speed DSG from Audi, which is an excellent box. The previous gen Tig had a much older box.

Not quite correct. The DQ500 DSG was introduced into the Tiguan in 2011. Though not every Tiguan got it. The 118TSI got the 6 speed DQ250 (which is not a bad gearbox) - same as Golf GTI/R.

The top model 147/155TSI always had the DQ500 after 2011. The 125/132TSI had it for a time, went back to the 6 speed traditional auto at the launch of the update in 2012 and then midway through 2013 went back to the DQ500.

So it’s been around for a number of years and has proven to be a pretty reliable gearbox.

                      • I've heard from a few dealers that there is at least a 6month wait on the fully optioned 162 in black... then a few other dealers have told me mid may/ mid june... and other sources have told me the more you are prepared to pay the quicker youll get your car.... is any of this true?

                        • Hi all, have been negotiating with a Perth dealer for a 110TSI Comfortline with Luxury Pack, Metallic Paint and Tinted windows. They won't go below $44 888 drive away (6 mths reg). Just keen to hear others thoughts on price? Also tempted by their 1.8% finance. Thanks

There may be dealers that have cars allocated and are not willing to take much less than RRP given the supply/demand situation.

It’s not unusual for this to happen if a model has a long wait list. It’s not as bad as a year ago where people were on 9-12month waiting lists.

Though you also have to be mindful that some salespeople will tell you anything just to get you to sign on the dotted line (promise an earlier delivery for example). Or they can be lazy and not prepared to do the legwork to get you the car you want. It may be that the dealership has to swap allocations with another dealer to secure the car in the colour of your choice (say swapping a white R-line for black). Some dealers will do the work to get your order and others won’t.

Yes that is true. We got our highline for $51250 and I had to work hard. Only one none local dealer was wiling to negotiate (I am a repeat customer). I had to take what they could find. They got me a blue highline with DAP in metallic blue. Lucky the blue was my second choice, after white.

They key is to ring around, even the ones quite far away.
