Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Sound System Upgrade

    Hi Guys,
As I stated in some of the other threads, I was not happy with the stock sound system in our Tiguans. I am no audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, however I couldn't stand to listen to the hard scratchy speakers VW served up. Today I had a minor upgrade to Morel speakers front and back... It cost me $1500 so not cheap, but I'm thinking there's no need for an amp because the stock media unit has enough punch, and if I wind up the bass on the bass/mid/treble sliders it sounds very good to my ear!.... pictures......

I should add that the door skins were put back properly and there is no external evidence of anything being done. The fitters said that the speaker cones will travel more smoothly and sound less stiff after approximately 10 hours of use.. If I can answer any of your questions... please fire away!!!
    cheers

      Nice!

What's the verdict on sound improvement so far? (before break in)

Do you have a cost breakdown? Parts involved, labor

I am really very happy with the sound quality now, it is probably better than I expected. I don't think I will get an amp because it really does have a lot of volume and great clarity now... I don't have the exact prices on me (im at work) feel free to pm me if you want later... but from memory front speaker $350ish/pr including tweeters, rear $330 ish... insulation around $150... door clips(replace broken ones) about $40, misc about the same with the rest being labour for total of $1500....

I was thinking of maybe just replacing the front speakers to save on parts and labour. No one is usually in the back that would care about sound quality.

That's a good idea really, you can always do the back at a later stage if you need/want to. It allows you to upgrade in stages which doesn't hurt the budget as much. Who knows stage 1 but be all you need?

That's what I was thinking. If I could do the front for under $1000 then I'd consider it. I'm just reluctant to spend too much more on the car, but then again, I commute in it for 2 hours each day and listen to a lot of music.

Pity you weren't close to me, you could come have a listen and compare it to stock.....If you're doing the job yourself, you could do all six speakers for under $1K

This looks really cool. To be honest we are at around 2500kms and the speakers have gotten a lot better compared to when the car was brand new (they can actually be turned up a little now without the shrieking).

Coming from a Dynaudio system that had a sub added, my all black SUV is lacking in audio. Previously have had proper audio installs (and remember the JL Audio W6 subs? Audison amps? Anyway - your solution Gary looks very cool.

Can you please compare it to the stock set up and any other audio set ups you've had. Where did you get done ?

                  Anyway congrats and good job.

I came from a Volvo with premium sound comprising 8 speaker Harmon Kardon system and a kick ass amp. I lived with this for about 7 years and always enjoyed it immensely...this was my benchmark. I was very keen to get the Dynaudio after reading the UK specced vehicles and was extremely disappointed to learn we weren't getting them... this was nearly a deal breaker for me, but then I realised I could always upgrade after market.

I lived with the stock speakers in the Tiguan for less than a week, and I knew I had to upgrade. I got it done by a local car sound installer here in Brisbane " Complete Car Sound" and couldnt be happier with the job. Ive had them in for a week now and Im enjoying them as much as I did my Volvo, at this stage I see no need for an amp or a sub. They are still" relaxing" and get better with use!!

                        Hi guys,

Just came across this article on CarAdvice this morning:

2017 Volkswagen Golf 7.5: Australian details

Looks as though Dynaudio is coming back to the Golf 7.5 as part of an optional "Infotainment Package" - I know its still a bit of a longshot but this gives me a little hope that it may become available for Aussie Tiguan's in the future (perhaps part of a MY18 update??)

I've still got a 12-month left on the lease for my current Golf so hopefully by the time I'm ready to place an order for a new Tig it will be available as an option!!

Has anyone spoken to a Dynaudio specialist in Australia to see if they can order the parts from the Euro / NZ option? Am thinking specifically of the odd shaped central dashboard speaker.

Wonder if its possible to retro fit...

I'm not sure what is happening but initially, I thought the audio on the Tiguan was pretty meh.

Now that I've had the Tiguan for a few months, I actually think it is good. I'm not sure whether the speakers needed wearing in or whether I've grown used to the audio, but I think it is good now.

Is this on the 162tsi highline?
I have no idea of the sound system in the Tiguan. Can u confirm if comes with a sub and if it's mounted in the tyrewell?
