I don't know if that was only the R-Line, or if the equivalent 155TSI model had the same exhaust, but it certainly sounded nicer than the current generation.

I don't think I'd bother with an aftermarket exhaust. Just slightly disappointed that's all.
it sounds like you are trying to make the r-line into something it's not. Progressive steering might increase agility but otherwise it's a just a family SUV a little bit of extra go.

Was just expecting it to sound like the previous generation.

Sure is. My wife got her new 162tsi this week. The launch control behaves very differently to her old series 1 tiggy. The old car was brutal with the way it launched under launch control and shifted to the point where I would cringe waiting for something to snap every time (It didn't after 5 years of abuse). The new car is much more progressive with clutch engagement however this time it is to the point where I am thinking whether it is bad for the DSG clutch.

Nice to know. Silly question but I have no clue on how to engage launch control ?

              1. Left foot on brake.
              2. Disengage traction control.
              3. Shift to sports/manual mode.
              4. Put accelerator to floor (revs should be limited to ~3,000rpm)
              5. Take foot off brake
              6. Hold on
