  • 162TSI Performance 0-100 times

Out of interest - has anyone with a 162TSI timed a 0-100 sprint in their car? I know that its claimed at 6.5secs, just keen to see if that is accurate or not.

I imagine that 6.5sec claimed time is with launch control. If you're just planting your foot you may not be able to get the claimed figure as launching improves the time by about 0.5sec or so.

However VW is known to be conservative with their claimed performance figures...

Is launch control active on the Tiguans though?

It certainly was on previous gen1 Tigs with DSG.

May just have to take a 162TSI for a "test" drive.

Traction control off, select S, foot on brake, plant accelerator and revs should hit the 3,000rpm limiter, foot off brake and away you go...

Might have to try it in my current Jetta. I know I tried it in my 2006 Jetta but it didn't work.

                There's a youtube vid of a gen2 Tig doing a launch - here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8FQZ0Z8i98

For some reason it wouldn't allow me to embed the video.

Thanks. I had been looking for one, but was always searching for 220ps or 162tsi.

Still really wish that the exhaust sound was slightly more pronounced.

Sadly the video only says it's a 2.0 TSI, not if it's the 162kw.

All of them are the same - even R-line is just a style pack and not a performance pack. If you want an exhaust note/DSG farts you'll have to put on an aftermarket sports muffler and possibly modify the resonator.

From my stopwatch timer it did it in ~7.5sec so I'd say it's the 132kW/180hp motor.

Yeah, even though the R-Line is not a performance pack, having a different exhaust could have set it apart, giving more reason for customers to tick the box. I doubt that it would cost more to have a more pronounced exhaust note. I drove the previous generation Tiguan R-Line early last year and it had a lot more bass to it than the current model. I don't know if that was only the R-Line, or if the equivalent 155TSI model had the same exhaust, but it certainly sounded nicer than the current generation.

I don't think I'd bother with an aftermarket exhaust. Just slightly disappointed that's all.

Gen1 Tig had R-line available for both 132TSI and 155TSI. No difference in the exhaust or sound of either.

It's the same through all VW range that R-line is just a trim spec and no difference in performance. This is same as Audi with their S-line. It's all for looks and no real performance change from the non-Rline.

In any case the Gen1 Tig 155TSI had a nicer exhaust note.
