I get that driver history and location and stuff comes into it, but I'm the same person, just wanting to insure a different car. Sure it's worth more than my current car, but the premium shouldn't be double what I'm paying now.

Insurance premiums seems to have skyrocketed. I got renewal for my now 2 year old Tiguan (bought brand new) and with same insurer gone from $620 in first year to $1135 now. I compared all possible others insurers and many range from $1500 to $2000 per year. No claims ever, 35 years old driver, clean driving record, car always garaged and driven up to 10.000kms per year (mostly used on weekends). It's insane what they are doing.

Ive just moved from Sydney to the Gold Coast my Tiguan is just 2 years old as well ,i was also insured with Premium insurance with GIO the renewal was about $950
But Suncorp would not honour the policy stating they were two different companys ,so i had to just take a normal comp insurance
        for $35,000 was $650

I think anyone living in Sydney will pay through their noses on car insurance. I understand the point from insurers as well with VW being also more expensive to repair than other cheaper brands. Been few times in QLD and so different to drive than Sydney, lot less traffic and more laid back in my view. But doubling my preimum and others here as well seem to be well into 4 digit figures is just absurd. Wonder if they sneaked in any extra leavies like on Greenslips. I have also heard that premiums will depend on how popular the car is, more of a model on the road, more risk of being involved in accidents. They seem to class each model and likeliness of accidents.

Now I'm thinking of registering my car in QLD. My greenslip went up by $90 since last year. Costing me now $613. That is the cheapest on the market. Includes $195 for that hospital levy. Should only be payable if you put someone in hospital lol.

Chuck in the other variables and it is almost pointless trying to compare quotes.
                Yep spot on.

If you want to save some money but stick with a good insurer, then get the best quote you can, try Coles etc, then take that to your insurer of choice and they will likely match it.
I had a quote for $945 on my Jetta and had it matched to Coles $471.
                Oh and I got a quote for a Tiguan 162 at $653

Insurance is a game, you need to know how to play.

                    Ouch.
See too many variables to say this insurer over another.

                    Keep shopping.

Exactly. Having a high excess is a key contributor in bringing down monthly / annual insurance costs
