Does anyone have comp insurance quotes for the MY17 162 R-Line yet? I was wondering if its worth starting a new thread or can a few of the member`s share their research on the best prices they have been given and was it direct or through a broker?

Tiguan Insurance
I think this quote would be very similar to the 162 TSI when it becomes available.
In the quote I used Finance for private use travelling up to 15,000 Km per year.
I up'ed the sum insured to what I am paying and that increased the price to what I will be paying.
Insurer: AAMI
Quotes:
Base figure
Sum insured = $44,990
Premium / Yr = $761.15
Up'ed sum insured to what I will be paying when I receive my 162 TSI.
Sum insured = $51,784
Premium / Yr = $909.68
I hope that give you a guide.

Just a word of warning on the comp insurer - I had also initially gone with AAMI (as I always had with previous cars, due mainly to their cheaper price).
Then I stumbled upon the VW website that listed their preferred repairers in each state - in NSW, there was only a handful of repairers and needless to say AAMI wouldn't entertain them.
Volkswagen Approved Accident Repairers are trained in factory repair methods to ensure the highest quality results. Find your nearest approved repairer.
So after some further research for insurers that would allow my choice of repairers (ie. one that was on VW's list), I went with NRMA in the end which was surprisingly not much more with the multi-policy discounts.
You may not be fussed about choice of repairers, but with the amount of tech in the Tiguans, thought I'd play it safe and stick with VW's list so they can't question any potential future warranty claims.Last edited by kacak; 12-12-2016, 07:33 PM.

Re: Insurance repairs. Is VW Australia so strict with future warranty claims?

You'd likely have to go back to your crash repairer for warranty on the work they've carried out. If they are a reputable repairer they will use genuine new parts. If they're recommended by VW then more than likely that will be the case.
I know some insurance companies will require repairers to use non-genuine parts where available (i.e.e windscreens). Best to check with your insurance company before you need to make a claim.

I pity VW owners in Tasmania and any out of metro places around Australia. The list is woefully short.Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait.I took delivery on 11 March 2017.

Yes it was a woefully short list which made me wonder how strict/meaningful it actually was. I also tried ringing their customer service up to clarify what "approved repairer" actually meant and didn't really get a proper answer - basically gave up and decided to just play it safe.

I've used Specific Prestige in Adelaide which is the "approved" repairer and they pretty much exclusively do Solitaire Automotive's work (main Adelaide VW/Audi/Jag/Land Rover/Skoda dealer). It's a separate company but they replace panels instead of bogging/beating them. If you go with one of the approved repairers you'll be guaranteed to get genuine new parts fitted to your car.
They pretty much specialize in these brands only so are pretty familiar with the cars which is a big plus.

There's been a few posts in other threads with indications on costs etc. Not all insurers had the 162TI listed (you would have had to call them up) but I'd say most of them will have it as an option now.
My current Jetta is insured with NRMA and has a fairly low premium (I think around $600) but I got a quote from NRMA for the Tiguan (162TSI R-Line with the lot) and it came in at just over $1000, so I'll be shopping around a bit.

It's worth remembering that even the timing of a quote will vary wildly, much less differences for location, drivers, specs on car and so on.. eg. my now retired S3 was under $500 in Dec 15 (and would have remained there had I not sold it) but if I'd only commenced insuring in Dec 16 it was almost double that.
Chuck in the other variables and it is almost pointless trying to compare quotes.
