I'd paint them to look like the ones above. They look completely different (and better) in this design.
I think they might also appeal more to non-car people. 'Ooh look shiny'.

We would need to get a university to gather up the fans of Suzuka, Cadiz et al and run some kind of study. Brain scans, the full works.

You really are convinced that there's something not quite right with people that purchase these types of wheels... Though didn't your S3 V-spokes have machined faces??

I think there's a difference between someone lumped with the wheel by default but accepts its crap vs. someone who expresses a liking for them.

Some machine finishing is fine, even if it's a pain to fix. If we can't distinguish between classic/great design and the crap below, then we need to expand the study.

I agree. I don't mind some highlights - aside from the fact that they pose a larger cost and bit of a headache for repairs. However where the complete face is machined it's a bit of a cop-out in terms of wheel design. Nothing against all the R-line owners out there but it's been done on a lot of wheels on the high-end VW's of late (Golf R, Scirocco R, GTI, etc) where you've basically got bare metal with clear coat.

Absolutely.. if we go back a decade then VW were masters of wheel design across the range.

Perhaps they mistook the uptake of the Detroit/Huff on the Mk6 GTI as an indication of future trends.

Or it was Tony Abbott's fault.

Yes I quite like the colour. Maybe not my first choice in wheel... here's another chocolate fondue (previously featured):

Yes I think so. Just needs a touch of lowering to complete the look
