Does anyone know if this started out as a Wolf?

I’m still berating what color to go with - zero chance of finding a Wolfsburg. Wondering how difficult and expensive it might be to black out. I have to assume a reputable paint shop could achieve this look easily for a grand or two? Perhaps even wrapping all chrome parts gloss black might be an option to allow for simple return to stock.

I think you’re right this was a Wolfsburg but ended up getting the arch strips painted body colour.

Personally I would wrap the chrome rather than paint so it can be reversed.

However you’ll still need to paint wheels and the wheel arches as these can’t easily be wrapped.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it, the Tiguan Wolfsburg (unlike at least the run of Golf Rs) really was a 'sticker pack' from the old days - so buy what suits you, and then tastefully mod from there.

This car, rarely for an all black effort, looks pretty clean but the clincher is the quality set of wheels.. and that's going to cost the real dollars anyway.

Do what tigger73 did and save the coin for the good stuff.

Holy **** that's ambitious for a second hand set of wheels, HRE included.

                  Retail is certainly not $5,100..

I can see gloss black on Caribbean working - but what wheels are we talking? And what other black pieces have you got on your ride?

I haven't got any pics on a gen2 but this is what black rims look on a blue gen1:

Stock wheels - looks like Montana but it’s 18”...I can see where you going with on the other black pieces...dechromining the windows & front grill might do the trick - you think?

I'd be looking to de-chrome if it's in the budget with the gloss black wheels, although nothing says you can't do it in stages to see how it turns out.

It must be an age thing, I just don’t get this fascination with black wheels and dechroming.

All depends on what look you're going for.. but in a wheel thread I'd expect a fair share of black wheels.

Frankly as long as they're not Suzukas, bring it on in any color.
