Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Q: If I am only replacing the front 2 tyre (rears are ok), is it work paying extra for the 'wheel alignment' or is that a gimmick?
If there is irregular wear on the fronts now then yes I'd personally get an alignment

I rotate my tyres every 10,000k and only get an alignment if the wear is uneven across the thread face on either or both tyres.

Thanks, that helps. Wear is even across the front and rears.

Is the 'Seal' on those Pirelli's mean they are a self sealing tyre?

The Hankook's on my Tig have the self sealing compound and are not a readily available so I'm dreading the expense if something goes wrong with one at the low mileage have have done on the set.

          Good to hear.

          I'd balance tyres only then.

Yes, the Seal on the Pirelli's are the self-healing 'black gooey' stuff that is on the inside of the tyre.

I have them on the Conti 5 that are currently on my Tig and when I got a nail, all they did was pull out the nail and push some of the black gooey stuff into the hole as the repair.

Having said that, I would have preferred to get the Pirelli's with the 'sound foam' on the inside of the tyre that makes the car quieter to drive than the Seal version.

                Not quite.

Mine have SUV in the name and have a speed and load rating of 99V

My bad, these were my only options that had the Tyre Treadwear specs
