Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Great to see physical buttons back on the steering wheel (not capacitive)

    Its a shame they have removed the physical buttons for Climate and Music / Radio (2024 capacitive)

    Not a big fan of the side leaver near the steering wheel for changing the gears? WT?

    Air vents are a strange design, but on a positive note I like the large centre screen

    Looks like the Dash now has a heads-up display slot

    How much better would it look without those extra tail bits on the headlights?
    Sorry but I think the 2017 - 2020 was perfect on the outside.
    Would also love to see a more powerful engine on the R-Line like some of the the Golf GTi editions, so the Elegance ends up with 162kw, the R-Line with 180kw and the R with 235kw. It would be a point of difference for the R-Line other than aesthetic differences.

      Fully agree, but if the new Tiguan wants to compete against a Tesla Model Y (long range), would like to see the R-Line at 200kw / 450 NM

      The article states that the wheel base is the same length, just that the 2024 has more rear overhang

          Some people may cross-shop those vehicles, but I suspect the vast majority of prospective Tiguan buyers aren't interested in battery electric vehicles. There may be a small number who are, but I'm pretty sure VW are on top of their market demographics.

          However - I do agree that it would be good if R-Line vehicles had the 180kw engine. Would be a nice addition, and Skoda do use that motor in the RS model. But then Skoda also have their "Golf GTi wagon" (Octavia RS) which has no equivalent in the VW range (which I think is more of a shame).

          A downside may be that it could rob too many sales from the (full-house) R which I suspect has a larger profit margin.

          Rarely is the 162kw tune criticised in the motoring media for being lacking in performance - it's often at the sharp end of the performance spectrum in comparison tests of similar vehicles.

          It'd also make for an incredibly complex model structure with so many engine differences available. If you take enthusiast owners out of the equation - which realistically are in the minority - "Joe Average" buyers really aren't that sophisticated.

            I agree, I am not a fan of the Tesla Model Y styling. Its the acceleration, silent motor and cheaper cost to run that are its main benefits.

              Yep, agreed. My ideal car could have the comfort and feel of a "premium" VW, and have the drive train (and acceleration) of a Tesla.

              I've driven a handful of Tesla's (Model S' and Model 3's) and I'm not a fan of the styling, trim-level or comfort.. "Vegan" leather (aka vinyl) - meh..

                How much fuel could you buy with the saving on purchase price $20,000 to $30,000 is a lot of fuel.

                Also it is too early to tell but I suspect with an EV average weight some 500 kg heavier than an ICE vehicle, tyres will be an equalising factor in the equation.

                  What is it with car companies calling Vinyl (made from oil) Vegan Leather. I could never pay $60K+ for a car with Vinyl seats.

                  Agreed. At $89K for the Long Range 4WD model, that is way over priced for poor build quality, cheap interior and Vinyl seats.
                  In the USA, sales stated to drop so Musk dropped the Model Y prices by USD $20K+ overnight.
                  If they start to discount in Oz and drop the price to $60K then I will consider a Model Y. Although I would still be unhappy the seats are Vinyl.
