Mk7.5 Golf R exhaust on Mk2 Tiguan

I know there are plenty of forums and conversations about the exhaust swap. Just can't find anyone who has not done the resonator delete or a Stage 1 tune..

Would there be drone or other irritating sound issues if I cut out the muffler/tips from my stock 162tsi and weld on a Golf R muffler and tips only?

Valves will be in open position, stock Tiguan system from headers to Golf R muffler (Tiguan resonator and cat in place).

Ok, so by just replacing the rear muffler from a Golf R onto your Tiguan:
When the valves are closed its all but the same as STD exhaust note.
When the valves are open, its a bit more throaty (no drone nor loud), it’s only when you do a resonator delete does it makes a huge change.
I’ve fitted the Golf R rear quad outlet muffler, hooked up the valves & it’s really nice.
(I’ve also added a bigger turbo & tune)

@Lacksballs just picked up a Mk7.5 exhaust and thought I could lock/tighten the valves in the open position. They currently open and close freely.

Do you know how to secure them in the open position?

Is there a coding setting/hack to leave them open? IIRC - OBDEleven has an app that does this for the arteon.

I’m pretty sure on eBay Ive seen a bracket that bolts onto the actuator mounts and clocks in to valve “key way” to lock them open Audi/VW. Or ask the exhaust shop to spot weld them open when they fit the exhaust..
The tail pipes will need lengthening to suit the Tiguan outlets. The muffler itself is held in the same position by the same mounting system.
To keep the cost down do the following:
Remove plastic factory “fake” tail pipe exits from the bumper so the exhaust shop doesn’t have to.
Wrap the reverse sensors wiring in the rear bumper in heat proof wrap in the vicinity of the new dual outlets. (I think I even rerouted 1 away from the outlet position)

I just picked up an MK7 non valve golf r muffler on the weekend.

I'll be having it installed in the next couple of weeks with a res delete. I'll be asking the shop to flange it so I can easily swap the res in and out.

Stock 162 Allspace. At some point in the next few months i'll do stage 1 tune and various engine components.

I’m not sure by fitting a non valve Mk 7 exhaust you are achieving anything? Unless it’s an after market R exhaust that does physically doesn’t have the bi modal function???

This has been an unanswered question for quite some time given the number of people replacing their stock mufflers with Golf R mufflers. It looks to me like it's the same muffler on all MQB cars, but with different pipe configurations. You can even see where the pipes are blanked off. I've collected a few images to show this.

I wonder if you punched 2 holes where the blanks are, would you get the same results as a Golf R muffler albeit without the valves?

I don't have the ability to attempt this, if someone is about to do a Golf R muffler swap, would you be willing to hack up your stock muffler by making some holes where they're blanked off and seeing the results? it may save you the cost of the Golf R muffler and instead just get an exhaust shop to weld some pipes onto the existing muffler.

Isn't non-valved the same as a valved version with the valves being permanently opened?

The valves are in 2 of the pipes, they're normally operated by motors. What you're referring to as non-valved still has the valves in the pipes, but the Golf R owner kept the motors to fit to an aftermarket muffler.

Most of the Golf R mufflers seem to be sold without the motors, which gives you 2 options:
1. acquire and rig up our own motors with a switch in the cabin
2. manually operate the valves - tack weld them open

I can't see why anyone would close the valves permanently as it defeats the purpose of having the Golf R muffler apart from looks,
you may as well glue 4 fake tips to your bumper and leave the factory muffler in place.

FYI if you manually open them they should stay open. There is enough space to reach up once the muffler is installed if you did want to close them. I found mine droned at certain RPM so I closed with the family in the car.

I ended up sourcing some motors someone was getting rid of and installed with APR controller.

I've been thinking about this. How much work was it after the muffler was installed? Does it have to come off again in order to install the motors, wiring, etc?
