Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

One of the dealers I called in Perth said this exact thing - i.e. 'we just use the same 5w-30 504/507 LL oil for everything'. Made me laugh because if anything happened to your car they would probably use that same line as an excuse not to fix anything because the owner didn't check properly what oil was used.

The new oil differs in that it is an 0W- 30 which is thinner and starts easier especially in cold weather but does buggar all else.

It was available in 2019 and I was surprised to see mine still specified the older oil. However as I had 15 L of it at half price I am still using it rather than pay the workshop inflated charge.
About 9 years ago I bought some at parts and was $93 for 5L At the previous service same place charged me $118 for FOUR Litres on service invoice.. Have supplied my own oil ever since
