Just ordered the door LEDs off Ali a few weeks ago and came across this thread looking for instructions. Did any of you guys do this to a R-Line which already has the illuminated sills on front and rear doors? I'd have thought they were already coded on in the door controller modules and I could just splice the wiring for the LED door sills to power the puddle lights.

Also never noticed the trunk light. Will have to order 1 more lens housing, LOL

Yes and no you dont .Would be a stupid idea

Would also be a lot more work to run wires out of door and into footwells when you just have to hook them up in the door

I found it paid on the fronts to add about 250mm of wire to make it easier to fit them in the doorcards after doing the wiring and also t run it where it wouldnt get pinched when door card is reattached
Do it the way Tigger shows . LEDs may not even be in the door controller modules. The boot light is a different to the door lights. THe one in the taildoor is the same as door lights and simply plugs in

Here are pics of the clips holding the door cards on in right photo

When doorcard comes off they usually look like the righthand one and then to put them back need to be opened to be like lefthand one.
To do so you lever it apart ABOVE the little washer to push the prongs over the thick piece of the centrepole

Thanks for the response. I believe the door sill LEDs are controlled by the door controllers, and wire feeds from the door through the hinge/grommet and into the sills, but not 100% sure.

I'll have a look at the door controller harness and check anyway.

I did this mod back in the day to my MK5 R32, and the front were wired off the controller and rear had to be wired into the door striker ground switch with a constant 12V.

Why dont you just do it the way we know it works and only takes about 15 mins a door instead of trying an unproven way that you really dont know if it will work or not. If you are going to look at the harness why not just do it properly. You may also have to do a little bit of coding to activate the rears

Things have progressed somewhat since MK5 days
