  • Is there a rear sway bar for the Gen 2 Tiguan

    Hi All,

Apologies if this info is posted elsewhere. I thought I found some info on this site a month or so ago, but stuffed if I can find it now.

Backstory - have a 2018 Sportline with TVS Stage 2+ DSG and APR Stage 1 installed and APR Stage 3 sitting ready to be installed with APR Intercooler, IS38 (Rev F), Racingline intake kit, APR downpipe, etc.

I'm looking to reduce body roll and understeer tendencies. Have Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering springs also sitting ready to install and have used ODB11 to get the Haldex to be more AWD biased, but believe a larger rear sway bar would assist. From what I can tell, the Tiguan Gen 2 has a 26mm front but only a 22mm rear which isn't helping.

Are there swaybar options for the car? 034 or Whiteline? I can't find any . . .

    Cheers, James

If you’re going to install lowering springs I wouldn’t bother with the rear sway bar. They tighten things up quite noticeably

From what I've heard, the sway bar makes a night and day difference. To add to this, the Mk7 R Sway bar is compatible.

I've got the 034 rear sway bar that fits the Golf R Mk7, as well as the Eibach lowered springs installed.
No more body roll. Love it.

Good point PDMJO. I can only relate to back to my previous car (Forester XT) and my WRX before that where the rear sway bar made more difference than the springs. Perhaps I should fir the springs and check out the change in behaviour to see if the sway bar is required.

Thanks Beedub. Did you fit both at the same time, or one after the other?

Springs went in first, then about 4 months later I added the sway bar.
The springs were an improvement on the OEM ones for me. Comfort was more like Normal mode, normal was still like normal mode just a bit firmer, and sports was like sports+.
It still rolled around corners but not as much, however now that the sway bar is in that's been eliminated and the ride hasn't been compromised for me.
If your chasing the sports feel in handling its definitely the way to go.

Bee dub which rear bar did you go with out of interest?

And yes springs are for up/down and sway bars limit the lateral movement/ body roll.

Awesome Beedub. Confirms what I was thinking. They are out of stock on the 034 at the moment, but I'll grab one as soon as it becomes available again.

Last question. Are you using the soft of stiff setting?

Fitted new rear sway bar to my alltrack wagon

Made a huge difference so much so that i shelved any plans to do springs or dampers totally transformed the handling

No more roll or sway from the rear corners flat and smooth

I would recommend doing the bar 1st and seeing how it goes you may save yourself a lot of money!
