Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Air Conditioning not working

My 2.5 year old Tiguan's air conditioning isn't blowing cold air. Seems like just the fan is working.

I am assuming that the a/c needs re-gassing?

Is having to re-gas a 2.5 year old car unusual?

Could there be an underlying problem?

Would you go to the dealer or a motor a/c person?

If it's under warranty, back to the dealer.

I wonder if the new car warranty would cover this?

I still wonder if it is under a new car warranty?

            Are they all the same?

            Does it cover A/C?

            This is what google says...

It was a compressor problem and is covered under warranty.

Whilst I am happy that they are covering it under warranty, I don't feel like they have gone out of their way to help us.

We've had to wait two weeks before someone even looked at the car and when we showed concern about getting parts around X'mas, they suggested that this window had closed already if parts were coming from overseas.

Now, we play the waiting game of them sourcing the compressor from within Australia which wont arrive until next year.

So I'm a little annoyed that if they looked at it two weeks ago, they could of ordered the parts and we'd have it fixed by now.

So what if they ordered an expensive compressor and it wasnt that.

Unfortunately everyone is busy at this time of the year and you have to wait your turn Sad but true

Even if they ordered the parts 2 MONTHS ago you would be lucky to get it fixed this year.. They dont just fly your part halfway around the world to please you They make up an order and it comes as pallet loads.

If there is one in AUS it may have got here in time but no way in a few days

A lot of makers have a Oceania parts centre in Singapore or somewhere and all irregular stuff is stored there.

VW do have stuff that comes from Sydney but who knows what they have there

I had my ac diagnosed and repaired in the same day with new compressor etc. Was not at a dealer however and certainly did not put in a the same bad design compressor that VW use.

His being under warranty restricted him to using the dealer who probably didnt have one sitting around

Unfortunately, they replaced it with the same compressor.

They even admitted to me that this compressor isn't really designed for the Australian climate.

I'm surprised more of you don't have issues considering this.

Stock original as far as I can see.

I assume it was brand new, but that wasn't specified.

The compressors May/may not be dodgier then intended and expected (though I haven’t heard of a/c complaints from people, regarding vw’s)

But the whole ‘Aussie conditions’ is rubbish. The only condition we have compared to some places in the world, is our desire for damping control- at the expense of absolute plushness in our suspension. As we became used to that characteristic throughout the 70’s-80’s.

Another aspect of Australia is that our fuel quality checks aren’t quite as stringent as some other 1st world nations and often miss out on the best possible engine tuning specs (and power/torque outputs)

Otherwise the ‘Aussie climate/conditions) are no worse (and better really) than USA, middle-east, South America, South Africa, China and so on. Having 40+ degree days is not unique to us.

On hot days ie 35plus, my aircon will only pass warm air till about 5km down the road then suddenly kick in with cold air. No fault codes when scanned.
This only happens on first start and works fine the rest of the day.
                              Damn puzzling
