Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Recently got a Tiguan Allspace 132

    Hey everyone

I recently purchased a fully loaded ex-VW owned Tiguan Allspace 132. It replaces an F15 BMW X5 30d which was an amazing car but had plenty of upcoming maintenance costs and had also just come out of warranty. So far, enjoying the Tig - it's got more tech and driver aids than the X5 had which is nice.

I've got a few questions that I'm hoping some of you can shed some light on:

    1. Is the Auto Hold button a bit finicky? Takes a couple of goes before it actually works every single time.
    2. My boot is missing the little torch (I didn't notice this when I got it) and it seems there's no other lighting in there?? Only just discovered this when I had to open the boot in a pitch black carpark.
    3. When using Traffic Jam Assist, I can hear heaps of clicks from the steering column, which I assume is the sensors triggers going on/off each time to keep the car driving and stopping? Last week I started to hear an additional rattle as well which is a bit annoying - anybody else notice these things?
    4. Apparently you don't ever need to disengage and re-engage the park brake (it applies automatically). However, it seems that mine disengages automatically when leaving, but doesn't re-engage when I get to my destination.

Anyways, so far so good but noticing a few little quirks as the weeks go by!

1 Never had trouble with it but dont use it much

2 normal dont think Aus models have them Remember Manual is generic for more than one country

3 Dont use it as live in the country

4 Always have to engage it Only goes off when you hit the loud pedal Auto hold does the same when driving but not when parked

Have had 2 models with it and neither engaged by magic

      1. Should work every time.
      2. Mine came with it. On the right hand side. Still a fixed light on the left.
      3. Use it lots and can’t say I hear the clicks. I hear noise related to brake pressure being applied as I slow down.
      4. You always have to apply the handbrake ‘on’

        2. I don't have it, but mine's a SWB Tig.
        3. I use it a lot and yes, I can hear the clicks. I guess it's just the electronics moving your steering wheel, applying the brakes etc.
        4. Correct, mine works this way. Disengages when you select drive and apply acceleration. Engages again when you put the car in park and turn the ignition off. Note I have 'auto hold' on 24/7 and this might be a requirement to have it automatically engage on engine off.

Are you sure about the brake as neither my Passat nor the Tiguan apply it automatically I can back into the garage and put it in park and get out and the brake is not applied EVER

Positive. I can hear the electronic handbrake applying when I turn the ignition off. I usually open the door pretty quickly after doing that and can hear it activate. Not to mention I can see the handbrake light turn on.

If I park up and need to step out, I'll put the car in park and leave it running. As soon as I open the door, the handbrake activates.

Do you have auto hold activated when you get out of your car? If not, it may explain why.

Here's a quick video I made demonstrating the auto application after selecting Park, then opening the door - YouTube

No never use auto hold except if Im on a hill and hardly any of them where I live. Will turn it on and see what happens but ATM nothing happens like that when I turn it off

              EDIT MONDAY

Can confirm it does work but only if Auto hold is enabled Drove forward in garage with autohold on Reversed back in, put in park and handbrake came on and stayed on when I turned car off.

Thanks for confirming - that video was super helpful! Auto Hold is the reason!

                3. Yeah I think the clicks must be normal. The rattling however, seems new so I'll try and record the sound and keep an eye on it.
                4. Appears the Auto Hold is the reason it's not been working for me!

The torch is a bit of mystery to me. I'll check the left light but it seems awfully dark in the boot!

I wish I'd noticed before I bought it as the dealer appears to be ignoring my question. I called the parts department and they reckon circa $140 for just the torch.

                    $140 for a torch?! Haha wow. That's a joke.

$10 at Supercheap for one of these, stick it in an easy to get to spot and turn on when needed.

The torch is overpriced, but it’s rechargeable and automatically becomes an interior light, when plugged. It’s a user-activated torch, when hand-held
