Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Annoying dash vibration

So I’ve got an annoying as feck dash vibration
I feel as if it’s actually behind the digital dash panel somewhere
I’ve pressed down on most of the plastics when it’s happening inc the dash panel it self, and nothing seems to suppress it
It’s at a certain rev and rpm, often at cruising speeds or coasting down a hill where it can be constant and annoying for a period of time.

Anyone else had or have what they think maybe is the same?

I don’t think I’d be game to start dismantling to get behind the dash

Have read this I will have a look to see if this is maybe it, I don’t think it will be though as this noise is right in your face and is quite apparently there as you move your face closer to the dash, I wouldn’t have thought it would be come from over near the glovebox side

I don't have a rattle, but notice a buzzing when using ACC and as the car slows down - like a servo motor applying pressure on the brake master cylinder
Car has to be dead silent (i.e. smooth road, windows up and no radio). Seems to come from behind the active dash

Record a video so you’ve got proof, then take it back to the dealership (if you’re still under warranty)

Mine had a rattle in/behind the AID. They ended up replacing that whole piece. I’m assuming there was a broken clip somewhere during the build process.

Simon why was it replaced? Not because of the rattle in assuming

Yeah it was. As I mentioned above, I think (never told why) it was a broken clip on the AID assembly causing the annoying buzz/rattle. The AID itself worked fine.

How did you get them to look at it? Took a tech for a drive and got it to mimic the noise?

Luckily, they could easily replicate the buzz- I gave them a thorough description of how/When it happens.

Possibly they broke something when pulling it out to put some foam behind it?

They have scratched bits of the new cluster- tiny and haven’t bothered complaining. It was too long after install to prove it was them.

scratched and greasy hands the a, b and c pillar trims(during sunroof lights work(replaced after I called them on it)),

Scratched/broke the central dash fascia(admitted and done as it happened- without me complaining)

left the hazard switch unplugged(I didn’t notice at first, but they happily fixed when I called up and dropped in the next day)

Hi smarty, did you ever the get your issue resolved, and if so can you share the fix? I have recently picked up an Allspace Adventure and have similar issues to what you have described. Be keen to get any ideas before I start the fun with the dealer.

My Passat had that and I pulled the panel out and put some foam behind it and also some thick tape on the clips to hold them in better. Fixed it ok

                      Sure did
They traced the vibration to a loose drivers knee airbag or something
Soon as they tightened that up noise disappeared
                      Been perfect ever since

A different issue and vibration rattle I also had fixed was the common fuel rail one too but that wasn’t all that audible inside the car, not like the behind dash vibration

I had the buzzing sound at around 2000rpm, noticed when did a test in revving in neutral and also when coasting downhill and also when taking off from stand still. Could hear the buzzing from front of dash and driver’s side door. Tech at VW knew the problem when took it for a test.
The fuel lines run under the driver’s floor and were loose, they put cable ties and insulation around it and the buzzing is now gone. The flow of fuel when revving would cause them to vibrate and noise would travel up side door.

Yep I also had the fuel line rattle fix done to mine too , firstly when they were trying to find the rattle but it didn’t end up being the fuel lines that were causing the buzz. Process of elimination
