Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rear wiper shudders

Is this something that’s just part of the car? I bought a new blade from vw and it fixed it for 6 days, but it’s now shuddering again. My last one also shuddered after only a short time, then stayed the same, until getting more annoying after 5mths- so I replaced it.

Have cleaned the rear window thoroughly. It didn’t and doesn’t feel like there’s anything on the glass causing this.

Always wipe with the squirter and/or once quite damp from rain/spray.

    Doesn’t seem right.

Just delete it. You can get a wiper delete kit to fill the hole if it really bothers you.

I haven't noticed it before. Suspect it may be a coating on the glass as I have heard this causing problems before.

My windscreen wipers did this also after 2 weeks or so. Think new wipers have a coating of some sort on them. So I cleaned my windscreen with slighty diluted metho with kitchen tissue to remove any contaminated crap and installed new wipers. 2 months on no issues.

Possibly a wax build up. Try Rainx windscreen treatment, it works well at removing residue and making glass silky smooth

Not at all. On the contrary, it says you must still use your wipers. I've used it for years.

It's due to a build up of crap on the glass.
Claying it will do the trick.
Also make sure you clean the wiper blade each time your wash the car with whatever you use on the panels. Pinch it and run your mitt/sponge/etc along it a couple of times.

Thanks all. I’ve already used the treatments and cleaned with a micro fibre cloth. I clean the blades each week. I’m an ocd freak with clean windows, so it especially peeves me. Think I’m stuck with it

I'd get some iso-propyl alcohol onto the glass to remove any residue on there.

Just check that your detailer hasn't put ceramic coating on the glass as this can cause issues like you're describing.

My Tiguan front wipers shuddered. It was a bit of a fight to get them replaced under warranty because winter hit months after I bought the car. Apparently there is a KM limit to get them replaced. I argued it wasn't raining during that time

Is it due to the shape of the rear wiper arm that holds the blade?
Mine doesn't shudder, but recently misses a bit in the middle about halfway up
It's where the blade has the most arc on the arm
