Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Fill up with BP Ultimate. I run Caltex 98 as I have a Starcard but it's caused detonation/pinging issues with my previous tunes.

    • Yeah will do but I got 220kms to burn before next fill up. Wonder how I can quicken things up hmmmm...

Btw launch limited to stock around 15psi in 1st then full 26-27psi all the way... I've personally never used LC ever, tbh I don't know how you activate the thing haha

      • Pull up. Turn off traction control. Put the car either into manual or S, left foot on brake, pin right foot to the accelerator. Car should bounce off the rev limiter at 4k rpm. Take foot off brake and hold on.

Though with the boost limit in 1st it will be fairly mild off the line.

Don't ask me how I know. I may have tried it a few times....

        • Sounds like fun, might have to try this in a secret location.
Does TC fully disengage or somewhat still active?

          • I think it’s always still a little bit on. At least that was the case with gen1.

Only getting the feel of the car today as it's seriously quick once boost kicks in and get a little torque steer.
A - B is a hell of a lot faster when the same length was a lot slower. If you know what I mean. Actually some heads were turning not expecting that sound from an Allspace!

It's starts spooling from about 2.500rpm with just normal (comfort mode) driving and boost hits at 3700rpm (sorry wrong info above) and keeps pulling! In traffic it's fine, not hard to drive and pretty much the same lag with the old IS20. The previous maps, boost came in at 4000rpm, so Gordie worked his magic and coming in earlier.

Sound is quite pleasant and is still pretty much how it was when cruising at 60 - 100kmh. Induction flutter and DV sounded superb, was worried it'll be too loud but I quite like it. There's no real drone from the downpipe but I can hear a difference, even from rear box sounds a bit more throatier otherwise before was almost non-existent!

I believe end power results are 266.5kw's @wheels and 460ftlb torque. At crank it's estimated at 318.6kw's and 552ftlb. This was on Caltex 98 octane which I don't normally use (car hates it) but was had no choice earlier in the week before tune and didn't want to mix the different additives. I normally use BP or Shell and car goes well on it. Gordie suggested that if I had those fuels my car would've most likely made over 270+awkw! Maybe next fill up we can try

Btw, if anyone is wondering my average fuel efficiency from start up was 10.3, that's with some tame boost pulls and start/stop traffic.
Will see how it is later tonight with a family run.

Would love to know what 0-62 and 0-100 times are but no way of timing it as software not available on my car!

              Only issue's need attention:
              1. Solenoid on the DV not working correctly, was causing an ACC light (faulty batch) but this should be repaired next week.
              2. Dog bone went missing from the workshop so this to be installed next week.
Well done mate! You must have the fastest Allspace in the world. Sounds very promising. You can get a Dragy gps, vbox or Gtech to time your runs. The benefit of Dragy is that you can time your runs and compare against other cars around the world. Looking forward to hearing more reviews, once the car issues are resolved.

              • Thanks mate, yes think it's the only Allspace that's modified! Now can't for my big brakes to arrive.
I will place an order for Dragy today and hopefully gets some test done next week. Post results here as a guide for to compare.

Wonder if Melb have any VW meets still, will be keen to join.

                • Just an update on fuel consumption.
Yesterday some earlier short blasts and downshifting average comsumption is 10.6. Evening long journeys with family (cruising) so no on boost and average consumption sits at 7.2. Which is actually better then I normally had when on the standard setup which is strange but I guess everything is finely tuned and air/fuel mix is spot on.

It's not unusual to get better fuel economy when not on boost as your AFR's will be trimmed up. Remember that the stock car is tuned for emissions first (not efficiency).

You will need to do the VCD tweeks to the haldex system which will help improve traction control and power transfer, unless you want to drive around with traction control off all the time.

I think the Germans still like to be involved even with all safety features off...

Isn't emissions related to fuel efficiency, i.e. the less fuel used the the less emissions?

                        • Thanks guys, just thought that with a modified car of any sort ie: Supercharged, Turbocharged or Aspirated would use more fuel on any sort of journey. In the past for me with any modifications has always used more fuel but with the Tiguan it's (hopefully) not the case. Maybe early days to see...

                          • Anygot some issues with the CEL coming on after some boost runs. I code it out but comes back! So Gordie going to install a spacer and code it out.

The other thing I think I really need to look at it a 7R exhaust as I think the rear silencer has shat itself after the turbo install! Drones really loud in all gears upto 3000rpm and even on idle. On boost though it sounds fantastic, pops and crackles and sounds the business. I don't want a resonator delete, would be too loud on the new system. Is the 7R system quieter in lower rev range?

                            • Spacer wont help, Gordie tried to code my CEL out multiple times but it still come up every few weeks, sometimes goes off by itself after a few days..

Seems to be a Tig specific thing not being able to code out fully

Anyone heard the 7R system, are they droney in the lower revs?
