Playing CD's in my 2018 Comfortline.

I'm assuming the CD 'player' in the glove box is in fact a CD player - only problem is I can't play any of my CD's in it.

It will accept them but after that - nothing. Have read what I could find in the manual but that didn't help any.

Intend traveling from the Blue Mountains, NSW, up the the Atherton Tablelands, Qld, in a few weeks so the CD player (?) would be very handy.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

CD = 12-20 songs

vs

Spotify/google play music/apple radio = unlimited streaming

Not to mention the storage the cd wallets take up as well.

Are your cds legit discs, or ones you’ve burnt yourself (I assume many years ago?)

It’s seriously a better idea to copy your cds (legit and burnt discs) to a USB stick instead.

If that’s not an option- and they are real discs, then I feel that the unit has an issue, or the discs are scratched.

What head unit do you have?
Assuming it's the Discover Media, do you see "Reading CD..." in the upper left corner of the screen when you pop a disc in?
Is CD a selectable option when you press Media?
If no to the above, then it's safe to say there's an issue and VW will need take a look.

Oh, one more idea, do you have and SD Cards you can use? Just to see if they can be read, can be either music or map update, might help highlight if it's just the CD Player or the whole unit.

Did you select the correct audio source in the head unit? Eg, sources available include wifi, Bluetooth, SD etc. generally the unit won’t play the source until you select it

Hmm... thanks all for the responses. I'm now realising that I'm basically on the bottom rung of the ladder of understanding of this technology. Will sit in the car with the handbook & your suggestions & re-try to load a different disc - just in case it's that simple. I doubt it but ya never know. Thanks again.

Don't feel bad, the first time I popped a CD in I was surprised it didn't autoplay like previous model head units did (like the RNS510).
It's rare that I do use a CD, but when I do I find it annoying that I have to select it to play.

Thanks Beedub... Your response was, to my elderly brain, the most logical & again in my case the easiest to re-try.
So I did...
And yes, this time knowing what to look for & pressing the obvious 'buttons'... it worked.

WOO HOO... now I don't feel as silly as I did originally.

Would you not just convert all your CDs into MP3s and pop them onto a USB or a SDcard for your long drive?

You could fit like a ~20 000 songs on a sdcard? (given you're using a 128GB SDcard and songs are approx 6MB)

Converting them to FLAC or Wave files would be better. There is no need to get hung up on MP3 files these days if you own a car with a Media Pro in it.

Doubt you could tell the difference in these cars, the audio hardware isn't that great between a high bitrate MP3 and Flac. 100% you could tell even with a mediocre home theatre/stereo or using headphones.
