  • Still waiting for my Tiguan

Hi everyone, my dealer emailed me on the 18th of Feb to advise that my tiguan wolfsburg had arrived at the wharf in sydney and was scheduled for delivery in no more than 14 days. Followed up 4 March and was told it was booked to go to their prep centre no later than 6 March. Followed up on 7 March to confirm if it had gone to their prep centre and they said it was due to arrive yesterday 11 March. Followed up again today and now I'm told it was actually in QLD and is booked to arrive at the prep centre in 48 hours.

I'm starting to have my doubts about whether they are even telling me the truth. I thought storage costs are incurred at the wharf if you leave things too long, so you need to collect it ASAP. It's apparently been sitting at the wharf for about 4 weeks now. Are there any questions I can ask to find out whether they are telling me the truth or not? Such as what ship the car was on, or if they are able to send me any kind of screenshots to confirm this?

Does your initial sales invoice/contract have the VIN number on it? if not they're telling you fibs and trying to find one around the country.

Same thing happened to me when I wanted an iridum grey sportline 162 with sunroof, eventually I just went I want my money back and they found a white one in a different state and got it shipped into NSW for me.

Yeah I made sure they gave me the vin, so there’s definitely a car allocated but I just find it hard to believe the wharf would hold the car for almost 4 weeks before they pick it up.

Might be in the same hold up as someone else on the Tiguan group on Facebook, some fumigation crap - which also apparently affects the clear coat too.

Stink bugs. Literally ship-loads of vehicles have been affected.
          Cheers

What colour is it I saw a black one on Saturday in QLD when I walked in and bought the white Rline sitting beside it. Dunno why they would bring a black one to QLD. Only a barmy 38 here today

I was aware of that, but thought that was sorted out overseas though. Didn’t the ships stop in China or something?

Something is not right, my only guesses are that there has been an admin error or that it might have had some sort of damage in transit and they are in the process of getting it fixed. There shouldn't be any reason why no more than 2 weeks from ship moored to vehicle in car yard.

I took delivery late Feb, and only took circa 1 week from port to dealer. I would keep poking the dealer.

I’ve just got the same delivery date as you. Finally! Guessing ours would’ve been on the same boat/same situation

Same boat I would say. I know the boat landed in Singapore for a couple of weeks, my understanding was to unload the cars, have them sit there in the sun for heat treatment and the boat was fumigated for stink bugs. I didn't think the cars were fumigated too. But someone on the other page says it was reported on facebook that the fumigation process caused damage to the clear coat. - If this is the case, I will be going over mine with a fine tooth comb and will not accept delivery if there's something wrong with the car.

This thread is the first I've seen mention of any clear coat issues resulting from the erradication method.

There were three eradication options available.

The first was to raise the temperature of the at risk cargo above 50deg C for 20min. And two fumigation options.

Given that the two approved pestacides are in use in a variety of domestic and commercial applications including fruit farming and household treatments, it is unlikely they would contribute to paint damage. Add to this the vehicle is has a protective wrap during the shipping.

I'm calling fake news until more substantial evidence is presented than "someone on Facebook said".
