Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Is it just me or does anyone else find washing and drying, especially the front area a bit of a chore. It's just lucky I love my tig.

I find that I'm forever fixing up dribbles from the mirror housings and around the tailgate. No matter how well I dry them there always seems to be some water marks

I use my ryobi one+ mini blower to dry and blow off (from top to bottom) as much water away in those surrounding areas to help reduce water residue and water stains, I do all the door jams, mirrors, front end and tailgate mostly, helps allot and reduces the drying time ...

The Tig is easy, had a Land Rover Evoque, that had more grooves and pokey holes to trap water than anything else I had ever owned. I just feel I am getting shorter to reach the centre of the roof!!

This is hands down the best drying towel I have ever used. Does the entire car and doesn't leave any streaks behind.

Keen to know if anyone has bought themselves a step ladder or platform to make getting to the roof easier?

I have just purchased the very blower myself in the hope of reducing drying time so is good to hear it helps. Black looks great when clean but sure is a dust magnet even when garaged.

Due to my genetic flaw of being short in nature a 2 step ladder for the win for accessing roof ...

I use The Big Green Sucker - Luxurious and plus drying towel. and to get to the middle of the roof you throw it while holding onto it. Work well. And yes the drop from the mirrors and tailgate are annoying.

Due to lowering springs and being 6’5” I don’t have that problem

Could do it before lowering but is even easier now.

It must be difficult cleaning the wheels

You can't have it both ways.

I get the occasional dribble (happens to us all when we get to a certain age ) but getting the R-Line front end clean is difficult especially where the spotlights meet the outer edge -it’s a weird angle and I struggle getting the sponge in there to clean it properly...

iDiesel, get a microfibre wash mitt. Sponges just push dirt particles around as you clean so you'll end up with swirl marks in no time.
The microfibre works by pulling the dirty away into the glove. Combine that with using two buckets, one for the suds, the other with water for cleaning your mitt per panel. Your paint will love you for it.
And no more hard to reach places!

Washing with a sponge - wow. That is like using an electric stun wand on race horses, the detailing authorities will be around raiding your joint shortly.
Do yourself a favour and bin that sponge, get a wash mit.
