  • Permagard paint treatment

    Hi Guys,

Picking up my Tiguan R-line tomorrow, and the dealer asked me if I want to purchase Permagard paint treatment for $500.

    Should I go ahead ?

    Hey John,

I can’t comment on Permagard but my car is currently with my detailer getting Gyeon Duraflex, full exterior, wheels, glass and leather for $1590

Worth getting some form of protection IMO !

No do not waste your money

The dealer paint protection is a rip off all they do is squirt a bottle of stuff over your car and that's it rubbish product as well it's a major upsell that makes them lots and wastes your money

You can get a lot of good paint protection done opticoat is usually the cheapest make sure you get a paint protection done 1st

Check this thread out it's what i put on mine now 18 months in and still looking great

      Pomponazzi 880xx paint protection

I know its expensive and you probably won't want to pay that much but a well done paint protection is well worth it indeed

I 2nd that, don't get it done by the dealer. I've heard too many stories from people in the industry that contractors they get literally spray on the product after the car has been sat in the yard for a few days and that's it.

Get it done properly by a specialist. You may even end up paying less for a much better job.
I had mine paint corrected (ie swirls and scuffs buffed out) and then had Gyeon Q2 Duraflex applied.

          Run a mile.

After market is where you’ll find a better product or a cheaper product (sometimes both). The other factor is the skill of the application. Detailers will correct the paint first and apply the protection properly, a dealership probably has a 16 yr old on school holidays doing it in the car park.

Based on the state of my new Passat from the dealership, I would have zero faith in them being able to apply paint protection.

A friend got the dealer to do the Permagard and and it didn't impress me 12 months ago and it looks rubbish now.

I went the Pomponazzi 880xx and it looks amazing and have only heard good things about it.

A proper paint protection will cost at least triple the $500 dealer job, but well worth it IMO

Hi Tomcat looks great, have you matched the front windows tint to the rear?

Have just had my 162 R line coated with Brila Liquid Glass by Frank at Definitive detailing, always a great job, lots of attention to detail

To be honest I just went darkest legal - they look close enough. My partner has issues parking in our garage at night with the privacy glass in terms of visibility so didn’t want to make it harder for her !
