Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hello - I've just picked up a new Tig, back to VW after having a BMW for last 5 years.

    I had a Golf R with an APR stage 1 tune and thought it was a great bang for buck mod.

    I'm looking for some recommendations on what's the first mods I should complete on the Tig.

    eg. really want to tint the front windows to match the rears (or get close to), who to use in Melb?
    stage 1 tune, DSG tune available? who to use?
    Is ceramic coat worth the money?
    What to do to tighten up the handling?

    Welcome back!

    Modding and tuning of the Tig is in line with GTI's and R as essentially the engines are the same core with minor variances..

    Main difference from a GTI vs Tig is the 4motion, so certain parts are specific for the Tig but are more readily available and there are many threads on this.

    Some have already brought their Tig's into R territory by bolting on an is38 turbo which is the same turbo as the R and S3 as currently the Tig is running an is20 turbo.

    Most that have done this have noticed a significant increase in power with a tune...

    I would suggest scrolling through the threads and reading a number of them that have already covered many of the questions you have asked.

      Hi,
      As Grugly mentioned the topic of tuning and mods has been covered quite extensively across:

      MK2 Tuning Thread and

      IS38 and big turbo upgrades Thread

      Take a look there first.

      My cliff notes 2c worth are:
      - Tigger73 quote “start with the end in mind” ie work out how much you want to spend/mod and have a plan in mind and a reputable tuning partner. Stage 1 is definitely bang for bucks around 230-240kw and upto 500nm at the engine. If you do get the mod bug you may end up with a IS38 turbo swap (stage 2.5) and a 4.2s 0-100 SUV
      - OBDELEVEN is great for enabling some features not enabled with AU spec cars eg Traffic Light Assit (speed sign shows up in the digital dash)
      - Performance panel filter intake (BMS/K&N) with snow guard removal and DIY intake mod to have direct air into the air box.
      - silicone intake hose (from turbo inlet to airbox)
      - TCU tune for DQ500 MQB (INASANT has used ETuners and recommends them)
      - Turbo inlet and Turbo muffler delete (minor performance increases, increasss turbo noises)
      - You could go straight to stage 2 with a down pipe (golf r awd pipe should fit) it removes the resonator and gives it some extra noise in addition to a broader power curve.

        There's no really Wolfsburg specific mods (it's a Highline Tiguan behind the badge) - other than maybe painting your black highlights silver

        If you've had a tuned Golf before then you'll more than likely want to tune the Tig. After stage 1 the $/kW goes up so bang for buck stage 1 is where it's at.

        I've ordered some Eibach lowering springs which will work OK with the adaptive suspension. These lower by 30mm. Will post up pics and a review once I have these fitted up.

        The other things you may like to consider are cosmetic touches like getting your guards painted body colour and possibly some aftermarket wheels if you want to personalise it a bit more.
