Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 132 TSI - Head light units replacement

    Hi All,

I have the 132TSI Comfortline model, As you all know it comes with Halogen Headlight units. I would like to replace the whole Headlight unit with LED Headlight / daytime running lights unit which comes with 132TSI Adventure model.

Is that possible ?? Any advice to replace the Halogen lights / units with LED lights or Units

    Please suggest

    Thanks!
    samy

I am working on this topic for a while, there are even few existing threads about it on this forum, you should have searched it first.

    Your options:
    1. factory OEM replacement/install - I asked the dealer and it would cost $4-5000 AUD, no option for me.
    2. Aftermarket headlight replacement - there are some headlights sold on Aliexpress for approx $1200 USD per set, but not sure if it is good for RHD cars, also there is an aftermarket LED headlight kit sold by BEC autoparts in the USA for approx $700 USD per set, but it is not good for RHD cars, I asked.
    3. you can put LED or HID bulbs in it (Google: deAutoLED for example), but it is not yet road legal in AU, although you will get a much brighter light beam. This would cost around $150 USD just for the bulbs for the low beam. For start, I put a cheap $40 AUD LED bulb (eBay) in my high beam socket and it is a huge difference.

Tiguan 2nd Gen DRL LED upgrade

Have a look at this thread and I replaced mine (low beam, DRL,fog, front indicator , rear indicator ) for a few hundred dollars.

Maybe you don’t want or don’t need to replace the whole headlight unit after seeing this:

The Phillips version looks like it has a good chance of actually working and not blinding other drivers.

You can't blind the oncoming traffic as the base model halogen light unit has adjustable range control in it, even I set it to the highest position it is still ok. By the way I use J.W. speaker LED bulbs for low beam and I am very happy with it.
