Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Downpipe & full exhaust system by Stone Exhaust

    Hey Guys,

I've come across a company called Stone Exhaust that offer a Downpipe & full Exhaust options made for our models. Below is a link to their downpipe: Eddy Catalytic Downpipe (EA888 )

These are Youtube vids of a Tiguan with the exhaust Video 1 and Video 2

I've been in touch directly with Stone Exhaust & asked about if the CEL will be an issue and their reply was: We have a special technical and design on the second Oxygen sensor socket. It could detect the emissions normally to prevent most problems which related the Check Engine Light coming on.

There is only 1 distributor in Australia and they are based in Sydney and are called Tunehouse. They have quoted me $2500 to supply & install the DP. They said they can do a group order and offer a discount if others are interested.

So just throwing it out there, if anyone else is keen, let me know and I can find out more on the pricing. Or if you want to contact them directly, the number is 02 95574000 ask for Tony & tell him DJ referred you.

Just buy a Mk7R Downpipe. For 2.5k you can get a full turbo back.

Would any mk7R DP work? I am looking into the AMS version.

I'm pretty sure most Mk7 R DP's would work given APR and CTS have both been confirmed. Though I'd probably get it installed at an exhaust shop in case some minor modifications were required.

Thanks Tigger, any recommendations on brand for this part? Most people I believe are going cts? Any benefits it's terms of power with them?

No. They should all work. Some may have better fitment than others. You want to avoid exhaust leaks if you can.

The other thing is you’ll want to get one with a high flow cat to keep it legal(ish).

Other than that you’re paying for marketing and a finish that you’ll never see.

I contacted CTS & they said that they dont have a DP for the current model Tiguan. They didn't offer an alternative option either. I've read of guys installing the MK7 R DP & saying it does not fit 100% and requires a bit of tweaking.

The hangers need to be modified, it's no biggy.

I had to cut the hangers on my CTS, and now going to add exhaust sealant on the joins as the pipe joiners between the joins rattle on hard acceleration. Might even use some exhaust wrap to hold it all together.

If the connections were flanged then rattle would not be an issue, advantage of the joiners is that it allows you to adjust rotation along the length of the exhaust.
