Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Got the front windows tinted too, 35% (legal) which matches the stock tint on the back windows. The 'darkness' matches pretty close but the colour of the factory tint is very green compared to the film on the front windows. I know it will get to me, might have to go darker to try and match the colours.

The guys at Protekt Auto are very nice and so far the car looks great.
That's what i have found with opticoat hard to tell you have it

I went for a glass coat 18 months in it still shines and is super smooth to the touch people still ask me if i have just waxed my car when i have not washed it for a week

Which brand of tint film did they use? I would get 20% to match the rear windows.

Any photos (before and after) to share?
Tint is 'Johnson Renegade 43', tole me he'd have to use 43 to get close to 35%. He measured the back windows while I was there and they came in at 39%

No photos of before but I'll take some in daylight to try and demonstrate the colour cast difference of front and back. I'll try and upload tomorrow.

Wow that’s surprising the rear window privacy glass is only 39%. It seemed darker to me. Generally privacy glass is around 10-20%.

My previous car has much a much darker shade of factory tint. So yea I agree, 39% seems a little light. The Wolfsburg has super dark privacy glass in comparison.

Here's the front and back window comparison for the tint colour. Note the white sign through the windows is a slightly different colour. I think the darkness matched well but there is definitely a different colour to the tint.

And a couple more pics to show the paint protection job. Looks lovely and clean but there's no deep shine or noticeable difference in colour from before, i guess because it's a white car.

                    Paint Protection and Interior

From the front of the car the paint does look glossy but not super gloss because it is only white and whites don’t reflect that much really.

For the tint it’s a good match for darkness but you are correct the tints are a slightly different shade. However, each tint is different and very hard to match. I’ve used the Johnson tint before and I would say it has a green hue to it.

For my Wolfy I will be using the 3M 20% tint so hopefully the tint colour match the privacy glass (hoping it’s a black tint too)

Don't stress it, it's still going to be the best value.

The standard white just doesn't pop like say the Oryx on Wolfsburg editions does - it's not a metallic. I had Opticoat on a Daytona Grey S3 and it was superb (helped that Melbourne's best detailer did the job to).

It is slightly more expensive $200-300 extra compared to the others.

Even Wikipedia agrees that privacy glass is between 15-26% tint. I don’t think that meter reading at 39% is correct ( it’s even lighter than NSW legal tint of 35%)......[emoji3166]

Just going by what I was told. You can see in the picture it looks pretty well matched. 39% surprised me too.

Do you like the darkness of the tint or prefer it to be darker (seeing it’s only ~35%)?
