  • Price on a USED MY18 Tiguan w/ R Line and DAP?

    Hi All,

Was curious to know what the minimum amount i should expect if I was to sell my 2018 Tiguan R-Line + DAP (White) with 7000kms.

I reached out to a couple of sites and was offered $34k, explained its the top of the range etc..but adamant at approx $34k-$36k surely a used car doesnt take that much of a hit from a purchase price of $58k approx 6months ago?

Wondering if anyone can shed any light besides the fact its probably a low ball offer or whether anyone knows whats these bad boys are worth on the used car market.

Thinking about selling as i have the 3rd on the way...new Touareg maybe?

In my opinion I would expect at least 50k for it if you sold it privately..

If your trading our selling in the used car market they don't get factory volume bonuses so have to make up the margin from the next sale so that price (whilst extremely low balling) would account for the risk of selling it off for minimal GP if needed

      Definitely low-balling... by about $10k

You should be able to get mid-high $40’s if you sold privately.

There’s been a couple on carsales recently. One very similar was listed for $49,990 privately and probably sold for that or a bit under.

As I recall, the Wheels Mag retained value on a Tig Highline is in the low 60's% after 3 years - sounds like you are not even being offered that after a few months. Definately low balling. I would think with the rare as rocking horse poo factor you should easily get high $40s. If you were near me (WA) I would be hot for it at that price. For reference I recently saw a used Arteon in WA with all options - dealer asking $57k for '17 with 10k Km. This would have been a $72k driveway and those things only have a 46% retained value after 3 yrs.
I would put it on Carsales or similar and start high. I am sure you wouldn't take long to shift it if still as new.

Definitely would list it up at 49,990 and see what you get from there. Anything under 45 is madness.

A local dealer (?Berwick VW) has recently sold 1 like yours but a MY17 (so smaller screen), I guess the lowest they could do was like may be 50k driveaway?

The trouble is that, no matter the car, they all take a huge depreciation hit as soon as you drive them off the lot. It makes no difference if it is your pride and joy with all the whistles and bells. Many of the higher prices on carsales are "aspirational", and in the end they don't sell for anything like the initial advertised price.

So you can start by listing it for close to $50k, but you need to have patience, as it can take months to sell a used car privately unless it is a realistic price.

I was going to suggest you use the Valuation section of the Carsales app - I’m the iOS Team Lead at Carsales - but I searched and the R-line is not listed yet. I’ll ask the boys in the Redbook team when we’ll have the data.

I don't think it's listed as Rline is an option and not a model... 🤷*♂️

this is the truth about used cars.

the ones presented and priced well, they just sell within hours or days.

the rest that remain listed, often they have been listed for sale for months and months.

some say, as soon as you drive out from the dealership yard, you loose 30%.. unless it is a unique and exotic, limited production and high demand supercar.

I guess 30% depreciation for a MY18 car is a bit exaggerated as in Australia 2nd hand car market is reasonablly healthy ( I have sold 3 cars on carsales website with the price I wanted over the last 10yers). According to redbook
                            ( https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/deta...OT-ITM-470186/ )
A MY17 162 has lost 20% of value and if u open the link with a computer (not with your phone) you can find the original cost of the options ( DAP + Lux pack + sunroof = $8000 extra ) . So 40k + 6k option = 46k plus rego and SD that will be close to 48k diveaway for the next owner for MY17. And because it is MY18 and low k you are looking at a bit more.

Like other said the first price u put is to test the market, if no one is enquiring u need to lower the price after let say a month.

I remember when I was selling my well kept 2009 E91 last year I got 1 enquiry everyday ( from all over the country) until the car was sold. ( This told me the price was set too low but I just wanted to get rid of the car)
