  • Extended warranty options

Hi guys, We negotiated extended factory warranty for 2 years when purchasing our Tiguan. I have been offered 2 options:

Volkswagen Extended Warranty Insurance for 2 years - underwritten by Allianz
    or
Dealer Extended Warranty for 3 years

Originally i assumed dealer warranties were not very good but the allianz one doesnt look much better. The dealer also mentioned getting approval from Allianz can be sometimes be difficult. Dealer does not require regular servicing to be done by them but does not cover sunroof.

I'm wondering is the allianz warranty the true genuine vw factory extension or is there a third option I'm not being informed about.

    Thx Fly

    Check VW,
I bought VW 2 years ext warranty for 2000$. Not sure if you need to mention that before delivery or if they can they accommodate it later as well.

Hi Aus, My contract states "VW Tiguan Factory Extended Warranty - 2 years/unlimited kms". I'm not sure if the Allianz backed one is the same or they are doin the bait and switch.

I called VW Sydney office to confirm and they said its in their system so it's VW. Could be backed by Alianze but the front man is VW.
Don't buy NWC warranty from dealership as it will cost you same but is crap.
Dealership also gave me an addition 2 years for free. In total 7 as long as I get service through them.

I might give VW a call tomorrow to confirm. They gave me a copy of the policy. There is lots of stuff about providing info to Allianz before they will approve works. The "Insurance" part in the title is worrying also.

Be careful of the dealer warranty. On my previous VW I got an additional 3 years but in order to keep the warranty valid they made you service every 6 months at the dealership regardless of kms

Thx Daz. This one is not that bad can sevice at other authorised centres etc but there are a couple of exclusions. I have spoken to VW Australia who confirmed that neither of what is offered is their "factory extended warranty" I am chasing this up with the dealer. Wish me luck

I was offered the 2 year, VW Australia one when I picked mine up for $2700, no strings. Sounds expensive, given what I've seen here so far. I was told I could also purchase just prior to when the 3 year warranty expires.

Yep- was told the same re being able to sign up to it any time within the first 3 years. Was quoted for $1800 for it. Will see how these 3 years under warranty go and then decide if I sign up or just try on my consumer rights beyond that time.

Yep. That is the one I expected to get. They have assured me that we have now received the genuine factory extended warranty from VW. I will give it a couple of days to process and check with VW head office also. What information did you need to give them to check yours, just vehicle VIN number?

The VW Extended Warranty is not underwritten by Allianz. It is not an insurance policy but backed by VW Australia.

As per the PDS Page 3
"a 2 year unlimited kilometre extended, factory backed warranty" ... "The Extended Warranty is backed by Volkswagen Australia"

No mention of Allianz or any insurance company in regards to the extended warranty in the PDS

Can't remember, but I think it was rego, but they should be able to locate it.

                            Thanks FastMitch,
You are correct. The only mention of Allianz in that document is for roadside assist but nothing else. The aftermarket Allianz document was given to me by the salesperson and not the person who manages the extended warranties. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a miscommunication. Anyway I will be sure to follow this up with VW Australia to ensure it has been corrected.
