I think we all know what the manufacturer says and a lot of us agree on ignoring it. If you aren't comfortable ignoring the advice in the book then no one can criticise you for that at all. VW motors have a reputation for using oil between services to the extent that our Golf came with a litre of oil in the boot, whether that was a VW thing or a dealer thing I don't know but we have never used it. My experience with three VW motors is none used oil after being driven very hard from the get go. It would be interesting if more people chimed in who have run their motors in by the book to compare experiences but that never seems to happen.
Yeah, I really have no idea, so trying to get a read on what everyone does, and get all of the information out there for others in the same situation. To add to it, the dealer said these modern engines don't need running in and not to do anything differently to normal.
Agree it would be interesting to see from others on how they ran their car in, and their current oil consumption.

In the same boat here, and with the same comment from the service manager at the dealer. So reading the different views with interest.
