  • dont shoot! would you consider an XC40?

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone considered the Volvo XC40 over their 162tsi?

I know the Volvo servicing is a killer and the XC40 cargo space is smaller but otherwise they seem like comparable cars?

    keen to hear others thoughts

Had a friend who was looking at the Tig and Volvo. His only concerns were the Volvo's being built in China for the price (not sure if this is every model).

Still, it look like a nice car.. not my cup of tea though..

      interesting!

reports are they're supposed to be coming out of Belgium but if demand gets too hot they'll revert to bigger plants in China (New Volvo XC40 could come from China - motoring.com.au)

did he end up with a Tig or are they still weighing up?

I looked at the V40 but felt the VW 162TSI was better value and more up to date technology wise. That's why I went with the Tiguan.

He is still looking but has now added a Mercedes into the mix.

XC40 is a budget entry vehicle for Volvo even after you take all the upgrades (and end up at $60k+) it still feels like an entry level car compared to the XC60. XC40 does not present value for money in my mind.

The Tig completely upgraded feels and looks more "premium" than the XC40.

The biggest differences in my opinion:

            Tig is bigger
            Tig feels sportier
            XC40 has an unproven/newish engine
XC40 rdesign doesn't look/feel like much of an upgrade

When I was in the market I seriously considered a XC60 rdesign but couldn't part with $85k for something my kids were going to trash. The XC40 seemed good on paper but when you compare it to the XC60 it was a huge downgrade not worth more than $55k.

            Ended up with an Arteon.

If it was available when I bought my Tiguan I certainly would have considered it.

Sat in one a few weeks back, was a nice place to be. Fit and finish on par with the Tiguan. Didn't get to drive it though.

I'm watching this thread, as we are close to pulling the trigger on a 162 highline r line with all the bells and whistles. However I am quite interested in the xc40. I'm trying to organise a test drive this week.

I think the right comparison would be xc60. Xc40 would compare to the smaller VW t-roc (coming soon?)

From what I understand the xc60 fitted out is significantly more expensive than the 162 TSI R line

That's correct. Tiguan is definitely better value.

I would of thought the XC40 was the right comparison with the Tiguan.

Physical dimensions is not the main criteria. I look at the total package including the "smart" technology, cost of servicing, depreciation, etc.

Interesting that the dimensions are similar. Having tested them both the XC40 felt smaller.

New Volvo XC40 vs BMW X1 vs Volkswagen Tiguan - What Car?

If you are in the market for these cars look at what you don't get rather than what you do. You will find the XC40 is full of compromises.

I think Xc40 is smaller windows, smaller interior space, smaller bootspace and smaller engine.
