If it is important to you that your “brand new” car has not been used as a demo for test drives then stipulating max km in the contract is probably the easiest way of enforcing it.
If you’re paying for a brand new car then that’s what you should be getting.
A lot of dealers will run cars around on flatbed trucks for pre-delivery detailing / tinting / etc just to keep the km off the car. It’s also less risk than having them on the road and have the car damaged in an accident prior to delivery.

I think I had 36km in the contract (dealer put it in himself when I mentioned I didn't want a car that's been driven for a test drive by someone else).
Mine had about 70km when I first saw it, but they did drive it about 50km to deliver it to me at my office. So that and the KM to drive it to me personally, it added up to be in the 30km's when I paid for it, which met the contracts obligations.
I also know mine came from a warehouse in Victoria Park and was delivered to Mandurah WA. They must have done that on a flatbed or by the time the car got to my office in Fremantle it would have had well over 100km and then some.Last edited by anonymousmoose; 16-04-2018, 05:11 PM.sigpicVW Tiguan 2018 162TSI Highline

I bought a demo, which has been standing in the dealership for 6 months, it had 31 kms on the clock.
I also drove a loan car, which had 8 kms on the clock.. Funny, because that loan car was given to me by VW while my car was in the service.MY18 VW Tiguan Comfortline

You want as little as possible, anything more than 15-20 for a major city dealership would be used for other purposes.
I used to work at Audi Brisbane and cars off the boat to dealership was about 4km. Pre delivery Inspection adds a max of 5km, then a fuel trip plus a window tint trip if outsourced.
The most important part of the engine run in is the first 100km, so anything over 20km, I would say won't be helpful for a good run in.
If a regional dealership then more is expected, but over 50 as someone has had, that's having a laugh.

When I worked for Ford Broadmeadows, the plant QA guys took an 'overnight car' home and back to work on trade plates to check the production cars on the roads. If they put more than 50km on them then a little sticker was put on the side window saying they had been tested. Of course, if they wanted to drive further, they disconnected the odo.TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km
