Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Android auto not connecting

Has been fine for a while, however today the car is not recognising that it is connected to a media device and only charging.

Chucked it on in the golf and worked perfectly fine.. which means it's not the phone but the discover pro unit no longer identifying the phone..

So the kicker.. it recognises my apple phone in both USB ports.. as well as recognising my wife's android phone loading up android auto.. so I'm stumped..

Any suggestions, other than a full factory reset?

Try to press and hold the power button on the car's screen. This will get it to reboot (I think).

I was having this kind of problem a few days ago. I removed and then re-paired the phone's bluetooth connection to the car, and it seems to be working fine now. Give that a shot.

Tried that, it works with my wife's android phone as well as my phone working in our golf when I plug it in.

So that narrows it down to the discover pro unit not detecting the phone as it's working with AA on the other car with the same cable.. it's got me stumped.

So, an update. Today when I took it into the service centre they said it is a known issue and have it reported to HQ.

When I got back into the car (having done nothing) I plugged in my note 8 and it detected the phone as normal and android auto worked.

I unplugged the phone and replugged it in and it worked again.. I turned the connecter around and plugged it in and funnily enough it didn't connect this time even though it's USB C and should be a reversible connector it seems as though it needs to be plugged in with the smooth side of the connector facing up.. wierd as my wife's note 8 works either side...

              Hopefully this works for others

@Grugly was there a software fix in the end?

                suddenly have the same/similar issue.
both our android phones work fine on android auto in our mk7 golf but now not working in the Tig.
Tried only factory resetting the android auto part of the head unit. it then works and connects till I stop & get out of the car. when I get back in and reconnect same connection issues.

might try a full factory reset of the head unit and see how I go.

I know it sounds stupid but if it's a USB C connection try flipping the plug and waiting for it to register.

I had the panel replaced due to a line in the screen but kept the main unit and magically now it work either side of the plug..

I think software updates on the phone have helped too.

tried flipping, tried 3 diff cables of various lengths.
                    same deal

though if I start as fresh it works.
when i drive again, it doesn't connect even if I use the same side of the cable
